Ameri-Torque caliper disc brakes ON FRONT
Has anybody got experience with these? I've heard of folks switching the sides for the calipers to install them on the top of the disk rather than the bottom. But the other day a fellow at a local cart shop said he puts these on the front wheels. It threw me off! I'd love to install on the front but wouldn't i need cables etc or does he kit come with them?
Anybody got experience wit them? |

Re: Ameri-Torque caliper disc brakes ON FRONT
I don't know about Jake's, but I do know about the Ausco,
The Ausco disc brakes for the rear are okay for the average guy who does all of his driving on pavement or easy trails. But if you do any kind of playing such as sand or mud, You can kill a set of Ausco brake pads in one weekend, You actually have to make it break adjustment at the end of the first day, by the second day the pads are totally gone. And it $56 to replace those pads every time you go play hard, gets quite costly, I know!!But they do make a good conversation peace. And work well with probably 80% of the people on this forum. I'm not trying to bash Ausco either, it's just that I have a cart that goes 40-plus miles an hour,(a few hard stops from that speed, pads are done, $56) I have a cart that sees all different kinds of hostile environments, one good weekend of running Texas trails.($56) I must have replaced the pads on those Ausco Brakes seven or eight times before I got mad and pulled them off and went back to drum brakes.(and I did have to adjust the drum brakes a couple of times, so the cart will not pull One Direction or the other under a hard breaking, from top speeds) On a side note I put a pair of those Ausco brakes on my neighbor's cart 3 years ago, and he is still on the same set of pads, no problems, but he does have a "Barbie Doll Cart" car hasn't even seen rain....... Okay say it with me, $56......... |

Re: Ameri-Torque caliper disc brakes ON FRONT
Ausco offers severe duty brakes that are made for abusive conditions.
The standard set works for most carts. We have been selling Ausco disc brake kits for more than 5 years and most of our customers are still on their first set of pads. Be sure to choose the correct product for your application. |

Re: Ameri-Torque caliper disc brakes ON FRONT
I get it Scotty,
Those $56 pads, are the extreme Duty!!! And you are right my neighbors had his brakes for 3 years, still on the same set of pads..... Again I am not bashing Ausco brakes, but they are not the perfect brake, the issues as stated high speed stops, and mud and sand. I also understand not everybody has an extreme cart, Or pushes their cart to the limits on a daily basis, As I also stated these brakes are good for probably 80% of the people on the fourm but there are a few of us who are extreme..... And stopping is a very important part of our conversation when it comes to this form. There are people that have four-wheel brakes all the way around with many different setups, and many different opinions..... Scotty you're much more intelligent and informative when it comes to information, your knowledge of the product that you sell, is always on point, I have watched you help many of a customer, and many Forum members..... Without knowing it, me as well I just can't bring myself to put them to the curb, |

Re: Ameri-Torque caliper disc brakes ON FRONT
Scotty I went back and looked, I purchase those Brakes in 2013, and you were a big help and instrumental with installing them, telling me to put the hammer down and step away..... Also told me how to turn a brake drum around and use it as a slide hammer.....
I may resurrect these things after all, and use them on Street cart that I am currently building.... |
