Default 7" wide or 8" wide wheels for 22x11x10 tires

Bought a 2017 Cushman hauler 800x( same as Ezgo Workhorse) with 20x8x10 tires. I am installing a 4" lift, I'm thinking I need 10x8 wheels with 3x5 offset for 22x11x10 tires. Don't want to order wrong size.

Closer the rim width is to the tire the more stable (I guess is the right word) they will be. When you put wide tires on skinny wheels they are wishy washy but can have traction benefits in low grip situations.

I wouldn't go with 8" wide wheels, I have a feeling they'd look funny (like the tire stretching to much to fill out the wider wheel. I have this exact size tire on 10x7s and they look and feel great (not at all too skinny) for the tires:

I have 22x11-8s. So technically the tire is 11 wide. I like the 8 wide wheel because the tire is wider even though the rim is still inside the sidewall and protected. I don't like the tires to sway around corners and this helps them be more sturdy, because I trail ride and tear around corners a lot. If I got new tires and rims, I would be looking for a 10x8 wide rim maybe 12, but I like a lot of tire its better hitting things like rocks and roots so I like a 10x8. These tires are 4 ply rated atv so they are stiff and do not move around much. I think that is a very important factor as well. The tire might be a hair taller with a more narrow rim, some tires are not the exact size so some are wider tread for example than others of same size. I think you have to look at them closely. In case of mine the knobs go around to the sidewall even with 8 wide rim the knobs stick out the sides. I know a guy with 14 rims and 22s they look nice but I would be afraid to bang down a rough trail with them. 8s are no good now they may not clear brakes or other suspension parts, but way back when I got them that was normal at least they have worked really well for me.

I went with 23 x 10 x 10 tires [still plenty wide] to go on 7 rims. Would for sure have gone with 8' wide rims for 11's For maximum traction you want the bead almost as wide as the tread, [makes the tread lay flatter and less sidewall roll.]

Agree with all the above. Go with 8's or wider if you can find them. I used to run a skinny rim on the farm ranger and quickly learned that with the sidewall rolling over the rim like that I was the victim of too many sidewall punctures that "may" have been avoided with a slightly wider rim.

My wheels are a 3+5 offset, depending on the offset a wider wheel might make the cart wider and more stable...by a small amount. The 8 wide seem harder to find.
