Need Stiffer Tires - Options?

For seventeen years the 8" rims and 22x11-8 4pr Wanda All Terrain tires have been perfect for my cart. For a couple reasons we have changed how our cart gets used. Or at least the ratio of the various ways it gets used.

My wife is now in charge of the Blue Star memorial garden at our VFW. The garden is at least 200' from the nearest water spigot. So we use our "water wagon" to carry water to the garden, that we have used at home for years. Now we/she will be driving the cart with the wagon at least once a week the 9.5 mile round trip to the garden to water flowers. The wagon is light when empty to and from our housse, about 150lbs, but gets very heavy with the 65 gallon water tank full. Those tall sidewalls on the 22" tires with small rims get real squirmy with a heavy trailer. And we plan to pull her two seat/two wheel Marathon cart this summer too. With two passengers it will be about 700lbs.

So I am looking for options to get stiffer tires. I would rather not go to 14" rims, sticking with 12" diameter. So far the tires that look impressive are the EFX Hammer in 23x9.5-12. They are 4 ply, have a good all terrain tread, and look tough and stiff like the tires I put on my F250. I prefer to stay away from alloy wheels and pretty much decided on the 12x7 black steel wagon wheels like Golf Cart Tire Supply offers. The 9.5" wide EFX should fit better on the 7" rim width rather than 10.5" or 11" wide tires.

Does anyone have a review of the EFX Hammer and/or another suggestion for tires in my circumstances?

the sidewalls are still soft , I would look for 6 ply tires. I have had 6 ply and 4 ply when moving my cargo trailer with a good amount of tongue weight. and you can see the difference in the side walls .

That is a good direction, but so far the only 6 ply tires I have found available near that size are either for 10" diameter rims, are taller than 22-23", or have such tall off-road/mud tread that they will squirm from tread height. Maybe I haven't looked long enough or in the right places.

I may be over thinking this but thought if I am going to make a change I might as well get as much info as I can.

Just about any decent 4ply at tire on 12" rims is going to be more stable with stiffer sidewalls as the same tire on 8" rims. The Wanda tread pattern is made by a lot of mfrs so it is pretty popular. They have worked fine for me too. But I do like the look of the EFX Hammer. With claimed 1.5" narrower than the Wanda and others it should be more stable on 7" wide rims than an 11" wide tire. The extra width isn't a factor. I don't float in sand or wade through mud. If the yard is too wet I don't use the cart. But I do drive it off road and on gravel so a street tread is out.

Check out UTV tires made for Gators and Bobcats among other side by sides. They usually have a good load carrying capacity and an all terrain tread that is designed for hard surfaces and long wearing.

That's a good idea as well as the type CP241 mentioned. I did look at a Power King brand tire like the Hi-Run link. The Hi-Run mentions mowers but the Power King mentions golf carts and service carts like the CC Carryall, etc. I don't have any experience with those tires at more than 7-8 mph but they do spec them on commercial mowers like ExMark, Bad Boy, etc. Those tires take a beating but I don't know how round they are for pavement at 20 mph or more.

The EFX is made by the same people who make 8ply tires in 14" and up sizes for the fast side by sides like the Razor and others but in a smaller size and 4 ply. Just not a lot of reviews out there from cart owners on the EFX.

Arisun makes a 6ply all terrain in 23x10.5-12 size. Similar tread pattern to what I am using now.

I have had great luck with my Kenda Speed Racer tires on my MPT1200 cart (Workhorse type.) I ordered 19x8-8 four ply. They are actually a quad tire, not specifically golf car tire. I keep them at about 32psi. Inflated like that, they are about 21 inches in diameter. I am on the asphalt a lot, pull trailers and heavy wagons. I also plow snow with these tires. They ride smooth, and allow me to use the stock 8 inch rims. The price was reasonable three years ago, about $42 per tire.
