Default Why not 600amps??

Hey guys. Finally getting started on the 48v upgrade. Most of the posts I have read day go with the 500amp alltrax controller. My question is, why not go 600. I thought I saw a 600 amp option on the alltrax site. Is there a drawback to doing this?

I just got an 08 club car precedent. 48 volt. Not new to electric cart have 2, 2 stroke carts and a vintage pargo I'm restoring. I'm interested in this club car. Seems everything aftermarket is easy to get for this model. Was wondering about the speed magnet on the motor but also the controller upgrade. Is the money worth it. Does it help with torque when lifted

It all depends on your intended end use. Workhorse carts and hard core hunting carts can benefit from 6-700 amp controllers, but 500 is probably plenty for a neighborhood cruiser. My cart is sepex and 500 is the biggest controller Alltrax makes in the XCT line. I don’t know if the series motors inherently draw more power than a sepex motor, which could be why Alltrax series controllers come in versions up to 700. Or just the fact series motors are used more in workhorse applications.

The highest draw I’ve seen is ~390-410amps for a split second from a dead stop with 2 adults on board. I’ve never done a hole shot with people on the back seat to check the amp draw because the added weight on the back seat makes my cart stand straight up from a stand still.

The XCT500 has a peak output of 570 amps. Sustained output equals or exceeds their old 600 amp DCX control. Couple this info with the fact most engineers agree that a wet cell battery pack cannot give up more than 500a at any time and you get the 500a recommendation.
PS
Do not run the stock motor with this control. Stock motor should be limited to use with the 400 XCT, 460 amp peak.

So.I'm working on a series workhorse mpt cart. You guys are confident a 500a controller is sufficient, and I have to upgrade the motor with this controller. Am I correct in this?? Thanks for the help

Yes,
For the old series cart use 500a for the stock motor and for most aftermarket motors. 600a is only used for the biggest tires, the biggest motors, and biggest loads and hills.

So this.is what I am trying to achieve.

I have a 2008 ezgo not 800. It currently is a 36v stock cart with a 250 amp controller and stock motor.

I want to be able.to take it round trip about 4 miles at a time over fairly hilly terrain. With me, My two sons, and about 300 pounds of corn or gear. I don't really care about speed, the standard 12-15 mph is fine. I'm putting on 22 x 10-10 all terrain tires. It needs to be able to climb back into the bed of my pickup after the 4 miles. I don't want to worry about the hills as I'm driving this thing around.

My plan is to upgrade to 48v. At least a 500a controller, height torque motor, reversing contactor 2g cables. And heavy duty solenoid. In future I will probably also add a 4-6in. Lift and a limited slip differential. Also I will add probably close to 100 pounds of steel for a roof rack, and bumper with winch mount. Do you think this system will do what I want? What should I change if anything?

So to clarify....it's an ezgo 800 mpt. It will be carrying a total of 850 pounds- people, extra steel, and all.

Get the biggest controller and biggest torque motor your budget will allow.
