Newbie, looking to go electric or quiet gas for hunting
Hey, new here and new to Golf Carts. I am looking for some suggestions on where to start and what to avoid. I need a rig to use on my hunting lease in Florida. We hunt hog, turkey, deer and coyote. I am currently using a MAX V (Argo) but the driveline is just too loud. I would prefer to stalk up on some game, I am sure hears me coming now. The trails are cut well, just some water to contend with. I would like to carry 4 riders and use it to haul game out (Upwards of 300lbs) (Pic of a nice 300lb sow I took last year, she was 5 foot from nose to butt.

I’d say electric because of the insane amount of near silent tq available but the water comment has be worried. How deep you talking? Not really ever seen “quiet” high HP gassers (which is what you’ll need for those kinds of loads), maybe others can chime in on that.
Here’s what I’d recommend if you go the electric route: -good batteries -High TQ motor (I use D&D 19hp tq motor, has been a great motor) -6” lift -2” rear receiver hitch -Between 22”-25” Tires -Axle, Inc 2-sp trans with diff lock -If length isn’t an issue get a limo cart for 4-up, that still leaves room in the back for all your gear and continue to throw your game on a luggage hitch like your doing now. -If length is an issue then just do the reverse seats in the rear of a normal cart and maybe a rack on top for all your gear plus the luggage hitch on back for game -Min 500amp controller & supporting upgrades -Heavy duty rear leafs You’ll prob have a good 4K-6k in upgrades plus the cost of your cart. But for not much more you could get a used previous gen Polaris Ranger which if left stock are very quiet, not much bigger and extremely capable & suited for hunting. Contact Don Plowman @ plowmanscarts.com. He can help you with anything concerning carts and hunting. Awesome guy and he knows his stuff. Picture above is my 2010 Drive (Electric) decked out for hunting. I absolutely love it. The property I hunt has a creek running through it and a old wooden bridge that crosses it. While crossing the bridge, a descent 8 point was standing in the creek drinking. He didn’t hear the cart due to the running water. He bolted when he seen me but what a beautiful sight. Good luck. Re: Newbie, looking to go electric or quiet gas for hunting
Thanks guys. I found a good starting platform in a 2008 Bad Boy Buggie. It was not working when I got there to see it so I beat the guy up on price and got it for $2,000. I have it running now and am going through the whole thing to make sure it stays solid. Worst case I will replace the throttle and controller, if the Sevcon units flake out. I figure if I have to completely redue it, I will be in another $2-$3,000, so still ahead of the game.
I also welded a halo bar over the rear passengers heads, which works great for two guys to stand on the fold down and lean back on the halo to hunt from the back. |
