Swivel wheel trailer
Has anyone built or purchased a swivel wheel trailer for their cart? I have a hitch hauler that folds up but it’s a little heavy due to it sticking out so far. No way it would support a 200 lb animal. I am thinking about adding a 12” swivel wheel in the center for support and will mainly use it to haul deer out of the woods and I can fold it up when not in use. I will modify the tongue to when I pull the pin it can float up and down for going up and down hill.

Re: Swivel wheel trailer
Seen them on lots of pavement vehicles but never for an off road vehicle. I would imagine with all that weight on one caster-type wheel that it would bury itself in the soft stuff easily. Sound cool though.

Re: Swivel wheel trailer
I see a "High-Center" in your future.
I've hauled deer, humans, beer, dogs, firewood,... anything that I wanted on my flip seat. Guy at the camp has one of the flip up receiver baskets. Only thing I never liked about it is the rear tires throwing mud on the contents of the basket.(prob an esay fix) |

Cue the Mud flaps!! :) I think his idea of allowing vertical movement would do a good job preventing a high center but I still see a lot of logistical nightmares in getting this to work in an off road environment. Prob be about in it for the same $$$ as you would for a flip seat too by the time your done. Those big castors aren’t cheap, especially the ones that don’t rust and carry those kinds of loads with a big enough pneumatic tire to not sink in dirt. But you would have a a pretty neat 1-off solution. I say go for it with a build thread and let us watch the Mad Scientist at work! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would think one of these
https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Gear-88...e+hauler+hitch With a pintle type hitch bolted on would be best. |

Re: Swivel wheel trailer
I read this earlier and it's been on my mind all day. What about using wheelbarrow wheel and fabing a bicycle like fork to create the swivel? The wheel barrow wheel will carry alot of weight!

Re: Swivel wheel trailer
If all the weight you are carrying is a deer, the original bicycle wheel would carry the weight too. If it sinks in sand or mud, the cart would just drag it through.
Or, if you have access to an old shredder deck, just take the tail wheel assembly and bolt it to the hauler. https://rotarycuttersupply.com/t/w-a...-1/2-yoke.aspx Something similar is available at almost every tractor supply across the country. |

Re: Swivel wheel trailer
I work a lot in the bush, [no, not hunting, no time for that] but cutting wood and saw logs. Not sure how groomed your roads are but a swivel wheel trailer here would be a BAD idea. The smallest rut will attract the wheel like a stripper to a 20$. Now you have the trailer steering the cart. A regular trailer however works well as the wheels can follow whatever path they choose and your cart is still steerable.

Re: Swivel wheel trailer
Ok. So I put a 12” pneumatic swivel wheel on the carry all. Height was perfect with the lift I have. The wheel is rated for 450lbs I loaded it with 200 lbs of feed and it works like a champ! Drove about 3 miles filling feeders. Most of my roads are graded with a 10’ hydraulic grader. So catching ruts and etc are slim to none. When I’m not using it it folds up out of the way and is remarkably quiet. I’ll post some pics when I get out from hunting this weekend. I do have the flip seat but I hate trying to clean blood off after it dries. Also if I’m alone it’s tough dragging a 200 lb deer up on it by myself.

Re: Swivel wheel trailer
Just bring a decent rope, wrap said rope around neck of dead deer, tie it up close to rear bumper, drag deer out.
