Powering Winch On 2000 36 Volt EZGO TXT Help Needed
Good afternoon. I am trying to figure out how to wire a winch to my 2000 EZGO TXT 36 volt golf cart and do not have room for an extra battery due to winch is being installed in the rear Bagwell for my application. If i wire it to just 2 of my 6 volt batteries i am worried it will cause issues with my new battery string. I found a 36 VDC to 12VDC 60 Amp Converter which will probably work but the winch states at 1200 pounds the amp draw is a little more than 60 amps so i think it would burn the Converter up. Does anyone also know if the winch actually pulls that type of current? The winch only has 10 AWG Power Leads which should only support around 30 Amps according to the NEC Code Book so not sure how the 10 AWG power leads don't burn up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Powering Winch On 2000 36 Volt EZGO TXT Help Needed
From the research and questions I have asked the gurus:
there is no reducer that will work for a winch Using some of your battery pack for accessories will shorten the life of your entire battery pack There may be winches out there that are designed for 36v or 48v etc. (have not looked into that yet) Seems the best option is to use a separate battery. |

Who makes a 60A converter? Any decent converter should have overcurrent protection.

You should have enough room under the seat.....directly under the drivers side. I have a 12-V marine battery that I have hooked up to my front and rear winch's, and my lights. The marine battery is built for long use between charges as opposed to a "regular" car battery that is built for short burst of power needed to start an engine.
You can see my set-up in the pic below. Yes.....the 12-V wiring looks like a bad plate of spaghetti .....but I just bot a wiring harness to make all of that look nice 'n pretty. I just need to install it. |

I had a heck of a time finding even enough room under my seat for a small 12V reducer. In my old CCDS the 6-8Vs pretty well fill up all the space under my seat

Don't you have room on the driver's side of the battery pack? Like Dave did, I easily fit a group 24 battery in my cart for the winch.
