Default Tire won't hold air, it's the valve stem. Are they different?

I have a slow-to-moderate leak that goes flat over 3 or 4 days. A buddy who works at an auto dealership looked at it for me, and says the valve stem was leaking. He installed a new one from the shop and he says it leaks too, if turned a certain way.
He asked if there's a special type these are supposed to use, and quite frankly I have no idea. It's an aluminum wheel if that matters.

Well, I'm trying another one of a longer style, we'll see what happens. :)

They are standard except shorter... I think we used to by 1-9/16 or 5/8ths
Sounds like you may have a burr in the hole?

The third one sealed, but unfortunately it's a long rubber one, lol. It will suffice until time for new tires.

he didn't see anything in the hole so maybe it was a fluke.
