The Sarge

So a little backstory, my father just celebrated 25 years as a Deputy Sheriff, 30 years in Law Enforcement, and the majority of those years has been spent as a Sergeant on patrol. So with this new project we decided to dedicate the theme to that.

So on to the fun stuff. The base is a 2006 Club Car DS 48V with a rear seat which folds down to a bed, voltage reducer, light kit, and horn. Picked it up for $1,600 and it also has brand new batteries plus a windshield. Pretty **** good deal. Body and paint was in decent shape, though it appears someone tried to fit the drivers side headlight with a hammer.

We stripped off the roof, rear seat and trim to get ready to do paint and body. The idea was to paint it a similar color to the Sheriff green uniform worn in Florida. Ford used a color called Deep Jewel Green Metallic which matched up nicely. However while we were painting, Florida does what it is best known for. Rain. So paint and body work is on hold for the time being.

Well while waiting for the weather to cooperate we started to install the 6 inch lift kit from GTW. We got the front end installed, but once again mother nature intervened.....again.

We will get it done eventually....maybe.....hopefully. Though our supervisor seems to approve of the progress so far.

A little more work progress today. We got the rear lift blocks installed and managed to finish the color coats. Once we have more time on Monday we are going to wet sand and shoot the clear coat. Once that is wet sanded we can reassemble everything. Rims and tires are on order along with wheel spacers. We are going to be running Kenda Bearclaws on 12x7 black steel wheels

Looks and sounds like its going to be a nice ride. As far as the pictures being upside down (I had the same problem) rotate your phone 180°. Example... If you are currently taking pictures with the home button on the left side rotate your phone so the home button is on the right side. That is what fixed picture rotation for me with the iphone.

Wheels came in and got the tires mounted. Fortunately the 6 inch lift was tall enough to allow the 25x10x12 tires to clear.

We painted the rear seat gloss black and once the weather clears tomorrow we are going to coat the "bed" side of the flip over with some bed liner, might put some on the foot rest also. We also discovered in order to get onto the rear seat now you will have to get a running start, unless you are Shaquille O'Neal. So we will be fabricating a fold up step to attach to the rear seat.

We are also going to start on the front bumper with winch mount tomorrow and get the roof back on.

Lot more to do, but less than what we started with.

I'll be interested to see how you do the winch mount. What brand lift kit did you go with?

Its. GTW A-Arm lift kit. It had MadJax logos on the instructions booklet so I think it is their bargain brand. Still really well built. I think we paid 250 for it after taxes.

So the winch mount/bumper base is done. The mounting plate is the old bottom plate from the stock suspension, the winch plate is a piece of 12 gauge 6x6 inch plate steel and the angled pieces are 1 inch square tubing. I opened up the original bumper mounting holes to allow for large bolts. One trip to Tractor Supply and $5.00 in hardware later everything was bolted up with grade 8 hardware. I get grade 8 bolts may be a bit excessive for this application, but better safe than sorry.

We are going to build up the bumper more, into a brush guard style bumper. and mount the roller fairlead to it.

Managed to make some good progress on the front bumper. Made a cage to protect the winch and provide some strength in the event of a tree jumping out in front of us on the trail.

Pesky things are quick.

The two horizontal bars will have more tubing added at the end to and they will be angled back. Once done either diamond plate or plain sheet metal will be added to fill in the gaps. The bumper on the Ford is what we are going for generally speaking. No it isn't mine. (Though I wish it was)
