Fry'd my controller
I fry'd the controller in my 89 EZ Go, this is the 2nd one. I think the problem is I am using 'factory' type controllers. Why does a lifted cart need a larger controller? And, under my conditions (I use the cart in my vineyard, with hills and usually carrying a load of something in the back) what size controller should I use to replace the current one?

Re: Fry'd my controller
Your stock controller is probably about 275 amps. You are trying to draw too many amps through it and the heat is frying it. Get a 4-500 amp controller and some new 4 ga. cables

Re: Fry'd my controller
In most cases when you lift a cart you also put larger diameter tires on and this is where the problem comes in. Factory controllers are marginal at best but any changes means that you should go HD with controller as well as many other items.
Check with Sponsors about correct sizing of controller. as they have specs and can give you the correct one based on lift, tire size and terrain traveled along with added weight. |

Re: Fry'd my controller
Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that the cart will still go in reverse but not forward?
I was going up hill when it over heated, got to the top then it quit. But, reverse would work, even then. Now, it is the only direction I can go? Any ideas? |

Re: Fry'd my controller
Check your forward and reverse switch unit probably the contacts have burned enough to make you loose forward. This may be your problem all along as they need HD contacts for the type of use you are giving your cart.
I would ( This Is my 2 cents worth ) replace your existing F&R swich with a complete HD unit available from any of the above sponsors. While doing this also check all your heavy battery cables and look at replacing them with a 4 guage kit from sponsors or get welding cable with crimped and soldered contacts from welding supply stores. |
