DIY Roof rack

So i bought a $90 34x38 roof rack today and trying to secure it to my Yamaha G29/Drive. Rack is not made for the cart especially with the curved roof. Looking for ways to secure it. Most it will ever hold is a few camp chairs and tackle bag when we go fishing.
I’m thinking of getting some heavy duty zip-ties or worm clamps and going through the roof where the brackets are on front and back. I know it’s “ ghetto” but you won’t be able to see it and as long as rack is level it should work fine for the little bit of use it’ll get.
Anyone done the same or something close before?

Wonder if you could make some standoffs out of small pvc pipe and some bolts. That way it could sit above the curve and be level without affecting the roof at all.

what do you mean by pvc standoffs?
Im thinking of somehow mounting a piece of thick flat bar across the front supports on top of the roof to help strengthen the front supports and mount the front of rack to the piece of flatbar slightly above the curved part of the roof. The rear piece of roof i want to mount to is very sturdy so i may go through the roof there.
I only plan to have beach chairs and maybe a tackle bag in it a few times a year when we go camping.

I think this is what he means and I would a agree with this method.

Cut some PVC pipe to put between the basket and the roof. Make them tall enough that the crown of the roof doesn't contact the basket. This will also better distribute the weight of the basket. I would use the biggest fender washer you can find for the inside. I would also drill the through holes about 1/8 bigger than the bolts you use. It will help keep the roof from cracking.

IF you do it like that, you might want to also think about using some sort of tubing as a sleeve where it goes through the plastic roof. cut it just a hair shorter that the thickness of the roof.
If not ... you take a chance of further damage when you tighten up your bolts to hold the roof rack on. If tightened too much, it will just pinch in on the plastic and squeeze the two pieces together because they are hollow shells.

Current pictures of not so great setup.

rack and hardware are designed to mount to automotive crossbars.
Large " U " bolt that goes through the roof then through a bracket and it tightened down by lugs.
However, as stated the roof isnt flat. If i heavily loosen the lugs i could put a piece of plastic betweeen the top of the roof and the bottom of the bracket while going over the bolt.
From tinkering it seems if i do this on all 4 sides then the rack wont be sitting on the roof at all and should be relatively sturdy since there will be 8 points of contact.
Im also looking as getting a thin piece of some flat bar type to between the roof and the pvc on each bracket, much like a washer on the bolt to help distribute the load.

what do you think Jkerle? is that what you were saying. Instead of having one bolt per corner technically i'll have 2 because of the u bolt design?

I’m going to tinker with it today and see if i can’t make it a little more stable and nicer looking.
