New controller Q & A
2016 Yamaha G29 with 6” lift and 23” tires...
Cart runs about 14mph but has nooooooo torque. Im looking at adding the Scotty B alltrax 48400 controller along with the S2W180 solenoid. My question is will it be ok if i don’t upgrade the battery cables just yet? Money is tight so I’m trying to piece it all together but want to make sure i do it correctly. I’m also not planning to replace the motor for quite a while so i need to make sure controller won’t roast it too soon. We ride 99% of time on flat neighborhood roads but do use it occasionally for camping and going up small Louisiana hills. Main problem is that cart doesn’t have enough *** to climb up my super short steep ramps on my trailer so i have to get a bit of a running head start which always ends up sketchy! I don’t personally see a need for the 500amp controller as the cart is squirrelly as it is, i really don’t want to go any faster than maybe 17 or 18mph. Is it worth adding the extra fan to the 400a controller and programming it to have all torque and minimal speed increase? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: New controller Q & A
The XCT400 should increase power about 30% on average. Problem with the Yamaha G29 is you are starting with (like you say) almost no torque. 30% increase will be better but will it be enough?
The XCT400 is your best bet because it can maximize the stock motor and run any replacement when the stock motor gives it up, which they do eventually in this cart once they get a few years on them and the workload expands beyond a round of golf. Adding the fan kit is becoming more popular for extended peak output. The 400/200 can be run with stock cables, no worries. Nothing will burn up or explode. You may not get the very best performance with the smaller cable but , we are talking stock motor and XCT400 control here so small losses are not catastrophic Hope this helps |

Re: New controller Q & A
I will certainly upgrade cables to just can’t do it all at one time... i plan to have this cart for many years and use it almost daily like we do now so I’m wondering if it’s worth buying the 500a now and turning it down, then upgrading cables in 2-3 months and hopefully upgrade motor in year or so.... i just don’t want to buy 400a controller and then wish I’d bought 500 down the road. *♂️*♂️*♂️
