C/C DS gas lift questions
Tried the search function, but I couldn't really find what I was looking for. What is different (I know about the hub deal) in a '95 and back gas DS that they seem to be excluded? Almost everything fits the old electrics, but not the gas..... I'm currently scattering an '87 DS for a VC625 swap, and possibly a small lift. This is gonna' be a back road/two-track runner....no serious off-roading. I'm more concerned about driveability and road manners vs. a ton of suspension. I don't want to end up with something that goes into a fit hitting a bump at 20 mph and makes me spill my refreshment. I assume I'm stuck with Jake's....because It is gonna' have hydraulic front discs, period. I'm currently looking at the Jake's 3" spindle lift, but you guys have forgot more than I'm ever gonna' know about thsi stuff.
Thanks a ton for any info/wisdom.... Jim |

Re: C/C DS gas lift questions
Jakes offers a 4" double a-arm lift that fits 82-96 DS gas carts. I have one on my 96, and like it well enough. The dual rate rear springs on my cart seem to effect the ride more than the lift itself. This kit can also be retrofitted for front brakes, which I will be doing soon since rear brakes only on a 40mph cart isn't the safest. The double a-arms are little more expensive than the spindle lifts though.

Re: C/C DS gas lift questions
Is it fairly stable and ride decent going 25-30 or so? A buddy has a lifted DS and if you run over a nickel you know whether it's heads or tails. Horrible ride...
Thanks! Jim |

Re: C/C DS gas lift questions
Go with an A-arm lift. They are the most stable at higher speeds. Spindle lifts are sketchy once you pass the 20 mph mark. I have the All Sports 4" A-arm lift with 20 x 10 x 10 tires on my DS and it is pretty smooth and stable at 25 mph. Keep in mind these carts were never designed to go 25+ so if it gets away from you at those speeds you could be in for a very painful experience. Another thing to keep in mind is wheels and tires. larger wheels with lower profile tires are going to be a rougher ride as well. 10" wheels and 20 - 25" tires will take bumps a lot better than 12" or higher wheels IMHO.

Re: C/C DS gas lift questions
I run it about 25mph down the dirt road not far from my house, and its not bad. This is with 20" tires and 12" rims, similar to stock tire profile with 20psi. I could improve the ride a lot with lower air pressure, but I primarily drive on pavement where better speed is more important than the ride.
