Roll cages, best type?
I have been thinking about adding a roll cage or sun shade frame to my ride.
I have seen of a lot of styles and have a question. Why so high? I see a lot of cages built very high off the cart, ...why? The only thing I can figure is that you want to be able to stand on the deck without hitting your head. Is this the case? I think I would like to build something more like a Polaris razor, lower profile then have a removeable soft top. Am I going to regret having it so low? Will I bang my head on it when I get into the cart? |

the reason they are high is because the manuf is trying to accomodate everybody. A cage built to you should go maybe 6" above your head seated.

Re: Roll cages, best type?
Don't consider them roll cages because they aren't. Some bars that bolt to the body isn't going to protect you in a roll over. The ONLY way is to tie the bars to the frame rails and NO ONE sells a kit like that in bolt on kit form. If they do and are advertising them as "Roll Bars" or "Roll cages" they should be in fear of being sued. The smart ones use words like "ornamental" or "upper brush guards" to get around any legal obligations.

I'd like to see an absolute bolt on "ROLL CAGE" without cutting the body or floorpan. It doesn't exist. If it does they are asking to be sued. People see the words CAGE and they assume its going to protect them in a rollover situation. A CAGE is NOT A ROLL CAGE or ROLL BAR or any other form of rollover protection. It's just a "cage" and offeres no protection at all. Just like a "Upper brushguard"...people look at it and automaticall think protection and thats not the case. |
