newbie looking for some advice on lifted gas cart
hi all,
I have decided to finally buy a cart and was hoping for some things to look for and maybe some advice. originally i looked at electric for stealth, but they dont seem to be a good fit given all the hills and roads to drive on our place in the texas hill country. also, i want to be able to drive around the place at a reasonable speed 18+mph even while going up hill. the other things influening me are price range and the ability to have my kids be able to drive it around. (they are 7 and 5) i have driven a few carts recently and found that the 2002 and newer EZGO gas carts have a much easier steering mechanism that i prefer for the kids. also, the EZGO gas carts seem to run faster than the club car gas models i tried. odd considering on the electric models it was the opposite. i am also looking at a used polaris ranger, but that is closer to $6k and does not have the rear seat or as much kid application. my question... i looked at a 2005 ezgo with high speed gears, 6" lift, 22or 23" tires, lights, 12v outlet, rear flip flop seat and hitch for about $3500 it is from a shop here in austin area. is that a good year to consider, is that a good price are there better years. thanks for your help |

Howdy jt... High speed gears on a lifted cart with a rear seat and 9hp engine are no match for hills.

5&7 yr olds driving lifted gas carts is a formula for an accident in my opinion?

Re: newbie looking for some advice on lifted gas cart
while i appreciate the concern scottyb, i am not lacking intelligence.
i dont plan on letting them drive it without me in the cart nor will they be allowed to drive it on rough terrain of any kind. heck, the 5 year old cant even reach pedals and will have to steer from my lap. they are both girls who love going to the ranch with Daddy, so this is another tool for me to build lifetime bonds with my kids. back to my question about the cart though, if we can do that... i may have been too liberal in the use of the word hills compared to other places outside of my area. we have a few hills that are mostly all paved or caliche, the offroad stuff is not real hilly, but can be rocky at times, which is why i need the ground clearance. the biggest hill we have likely goes uphill for 200 yds maximum with a grade that i can go up in my bicycle no problem. would i still want to avoid high speed gears. was interested in that since the drive from the cabin to my hunting blinds inside the ranch is almost 2 miles on a paved road. so i was looking for a little bit of speed on the flat sections too. i dont have to go 40 or anything, but 20 would be sufficient. thanks all. |

Re: newbie looking for some advice on lifted gas cart
one other thing to consider...
i also have the opportunity to buy a 2006 ezgo workhorse 350g for around $2,700 it is coming from the rental world, which i am sure has its challenges. how are they compared to a TXT for example. ride, noise, speed, off road ability. it feels like they have more torque, but are louder to me, but i am very new to this stuff and it is all starting to look and sound the same. |

Re: newbie looking for some advice on lifted gas cart
My opinion? OK - You asked
A lifted gas cart in the $3,000.00 - $3,500.00 range is missing something. We have sold around 10 - 2007's w/ factory lifts, tires / wheels and rear flip seats for $4,900.00 in the past month. Rental carts? WORN OUT High speed gears on a lifted cart? BAD IDEA My 2 cents - spend it wisely... |

Re: newbie looking for some advice on lifted gas cart
thanks
that is the kind of info i am looking for after the previous comment on high speed gears, i can see where that is a bad idea. as for the price, these are 2002 models, so would that make that much difference. one is from kenfield in austin |
