600cc Yamaha G1
Hello everyone! I have been working on an off-road golf cart project for a while now and I wanted to share some of my story and pictures. It all began with an 81 Yamaha G1E and a dream of greatness...

Re: 600cc Yamaha G1
I have taken her up to 40 MPH but that was only in 3rd gear. Next desert trip I am planning to bring all of my motorcycle gear and helmet, get one of my buddies to bring his nice video camera (In case it goes horribly wrong) and top her out in 6th.

Re: 600cc Yamaha G1
The goal of the project was to build an off-road cart with a big engine for as little money as possible. Apparently $180 for a golf cart doesnt get you very far, I had a lot of work to do.
This old cart, an 81 Electric Yamaha G1E, had seen better days |

Re: 600cc Yamaha G1
The previous owner not only took amazing care of this vehicle, he also tried to add his own home made lift kit. Good intentions but poorly done, this was the first thing to come off

Re: 600cc Yamaha G1
I removed everything from the frame and began what felt like an endless project of sanding and grinding.

Re: 600cc Yamaha G1
After a LOT of grinding she got a few coats of some much needed primer and paint.

Cleaned, primed and painted all of the front suspension components. Replaced all the hardware with grade 8 bolts and re-assembled the front end.
