Club Car Limited Slip or Locker What do you have?

I currently have the spider gears welded up in my 92 CC Gasser. I Love the positive traction but hate that fact that I can't turn on the street anymore. I am looking into three different options

1. Swap out my rear end for the newer style club car rear end and getting the AM1224601 Intellilock automatic differential locker from club car

2. Buggies Unlimited limited slip kit. I don't think I would be impressed with a limited slip and I question the qaulity of this kit.

3. Retrofit a axle assembly out of something with a selectable locker. A ezgo workhorse St480 wont work due to it having the clutch on the wrong side. Which leaves me with a Carryall 272 rear end possibly or maybe the rearend out of a John Deere Gator depending on the track width.

I have another differential assembly for the 92-96 gassers that is factory (no low gears or welded differential) that I would possibly swap for a newer style rear that I could get the Intellilock locker for. As most know the 92-96 axles are popular because when run with a big block they will run in the correct forward and reverse pattern like factory. I would appreciate any advice or feedback if you have or have tried any of these 3 options. If you have an option 4 that is even better than what I came up with then speak out. Thank Thomas

I had an 01 XRT with the linited slip diff from the factory.... it wouldn't keep the wheels from spinning or the cart from getting stuck with one wheel spinning but, if you scooted accross the seat to the spinning wheel side it would lock that wheel and potentially get you out.... I had to work at getting it stuck to try this...

Yeah thats an option but if im going to some trouble to solve my problem then I want it to lock up completely. Seat shifting isnt exactly my style. Scotty do you know anything about some club car villagers have a locker for limited slip from the factory?

I have a 2003 CC DS Gas with a 272 locking differential and it is probably the best mod I have done. When the traction gets crappy or the mud is deep I just throw the lever and it locks the rear end up. The most difficult part of putting the rear end in the car was cutting off the spring perches and moving them closer together- the DS chassis is narrower in the back than the 272. The 272 comes standard with hydraulic drum brakes in the rear but- the stock brakes bolt directly on and work perfect. I just unbolted the backing plates and bolted them right on the 272 rear end. you will have to tweak/ make some cable perches and make extensions for your brake cables.
That's it. Remember though- the 272 has a lower gear ratio so you'll climb better but may sacrifice a bit of top speed.

Overall wasn't that hard to fit in and I don't get stuck or have to push when we're all out on the trails.

How can i tell if my cc rearend is a 92-96 as i purchased it used no cc was around to know what year. I have it in my g1 project with my bb and driven on the pass side? as i to have thought about lockers or welding up but since im not sure what i have im kinda stuck. Thanks

How much $$ does a 272 axle set you back?

The older transaxles are "non-unitized". The transmission and the diff. are housed in 2 seperate cases- trans. is splined and bolts onto the diff. That's how you can tell. Newer rear ends house the trans. and the diff in one case- "unitized".

272 rear ends are big bucks- Club Car sugg. retail is $2000
We can do better though....

well from my picture and what i can tell it is a non unitized because it looks as if the upper with the shifter would come off of the rest. So with axle in my cart with driven clutch on pass side i shift the lever toward drivers side and go forward. Am in running the axle in forward or reverse? Thanks
