What is a good cart to start with?
Hello,
This is an awesome site, you guys build some great carts. I have never built a cart but would like to. I plan on taking my time to build it ($). I would like a lifted cart with 25" tires or bigger, probably gas powered, some sort of utility bed on back stock or after market. This will be used around the farm and for hunting. My question for you guys; are there any particular brands I should look for or particular years that are better than others. I plan on taking my time to find the right cart for my needs. I appreciate any pointers or advice you can offer. Bill |

Hi bwillhunt. I'm guessing an ezgo workhorse would be a good start for what you want. Not sure of years, If any are better than others. Any cart will do, if you put the time and money into it. It's just the workhorse sounds like a good starting point for you. Hopefully someone with a little more information will be along to help.

Ezgo workhorse definately fits what your looking for. I never had one so years im not to up on. Workhorse gives you bed, bigger motor to start with, wider stance and all around good suspension. They are definately more money to start with and not as many out there so it may be a little harder to find.

Re: What is a good cart to start with?
Welcome Bill! Personally I would recommend staying with Clubcar/Ezgo or Yamaha (the big 3). Buy the newest model car you can afford (more add on's available for them). Carryall's/Workhorse's and Umax's are great utility vehicles, but can be expensive, even used. Standard golf car's are readily available and you can add a box/trailor hitch ect ect ect. Let us know what you decide and show some build pic's. That's why we are here, to help if we can and see guy's build there dream rig. Good luck Dave

Welcome Bill!!!!
I too am somewhat new to the whole golf cart modding thing. I came from the ATV world. I found that if you put the time in to read and research this site, you'll find a wealth of information! All the guys on here are great. Good Luck with your search! Rich |

for around the farm a workhorse most defiantly, no reason to re-invent the wheel.
I guess you could get a club car if you don't care about the looks or dependability. Do they still make those yamaha carts? |

Re: What is a good cart to start with?
workhorse or umax. I have a problem with my g16 big block in that it whats to wheelie with more than 100lbs in the bed. not saying that it doesn't drag the bumper every once in a while.
We have been using my sons 2 stroke workhorse as we can load it up with 400lbs of wood and it is still stable. |

Re: What is a good cart to start with?
I did an ezgo txt and wasn't all that impressed with the sturdiness of the frame etc. I now have a Yamaha and I can say that these things are built like tanks. After further research, it seems all Yamaha's are built this tough with tube frames similar to a race car. Might want to look into that?
As far as mods go, yes newer models are better for parts availabilty. Check out some of the aftermarket companies and see what they are making parts for and start checking them out. Make sure you go look at alot of carts before you buy. There are alot of people trying to get way too much money for these things. Drive them. Check underneath. And get the one that you like. |
