Re: Welded rearend need help
All welded rears or as we call em in the race world, lincoln lockers, will turn like crap on the street. I didnt think it would be so bad in the trails as one of the tires would slip more in dirt/mud unless you are getting a lot traction. Less traction to one of the wheels will get you a better turnin radius when you have a fully locked rearend. Even on the street our cars turns like crap. In the wet weather it will kick out the rearend on a turn cause both wheels are turning the same amount. I say you just gotta get used to it as there is nothing that can compare to both wheels turning when you need them to. One wheeler peelers always get stuck and it sucks

Re: Welded rearend need help
There may be a solution but will take alittle work & fabricating. Install two brake pedals, one for each rear brake. That will enable you to turn it with the brakes. That's how you steer a bulldozer. tank, etc.
Disconnect the left brake cable. Put an additional brake pedal to the left of the original & attach the brake cable for the left brake to it. Brake pedals close enough to each other that you can push between the two. Ross |

Re: Welded rearend need help
Two brakes will probably do nothing more than wear out brake pads more than usual. As already mentioned, you'll just have to get used to it. You only weld the spiders on dedicated trail rigs. With the axle welded, you don't stop one side without stopping the other side equally.

Re: Welded rearend need help
That helps, scottyb... BTW, I did pull the cart to the front of the trailer behind the Jeep. Pulls a little better for that little bit of extra weight on the front. Good call. I also put a strap on it.

Re: Welded rearend need help
That's the little stuff I've learned from hauling carts every stinking day ...... My least favorite carts have fancy long fiberglass custom noses on them ..... so I can't jamb them up the the snubbing rail It takes 4 straps to tie these down in the center of the trailer ...... gotta go pic one up in the am
