Suggestion on fender flare and other
I am getting closer to needing a set of fender flares. The body parts should be back in a week. They will be going on a 1995 CC with 23x10.5x12 tires with a Long travel lift kit from Jakes. What are your personal suggestions for looks, install and for actual protection for new body paint. This cart is only going to be used on pavement.
Another try at this question. I could not get Ken at Jakes to give me a actual amount of torque to apply to the King pin Bolt nor the amount for wheel lug nuts. I did get 2 replies on this forum about lug nuts but it ranged from 90 to 45 ft lbs. I know I am anal but to old to change now. Thanks Phil |

Phil - I got flares from Ron at ECC - Take a look in that post you commented on with the before and after pics.

Re: Suggestion on fender flare and other
Phil J,
I usually go 75-85 ftlbs with aluminum wheels. I check the lug nuts every week and visually check them every ride. 90% of my riding is on dirt roads and sand with a few bumps and not much time on the brake. With new wheels, I always check the lug nuts after every ride for at least 3 days to make sure that everything has settled in and stays tight. For a no-bull torque spec, you need to either check with your cart manufacturer or wheel manufacturer. I would go with the higher spec and check it often. |

Re: Suggestion on fender flare and other
Mjribeiro and Stovebolt thanks for the suggestions and I will check out the links. I need to order tomorrow so I can get them before the cart is ready to roll out of the garage. I do not want to mess up the new paint.
arcitech Thanks, I think you are right on. I stopped by a local cart shop today and asked what they torque the aluminum wheels and he said 70ft lbs. This shop really only deals with golf carts that are not modified and only used on golf courses and neighborhood streets. So little higher torque is probably right on for more aggressive use. Also I plan on checking the lift and wheels often for the first week or so. Thanks again Phil |

Re: Suggestion on fender flare and other
Phil, my reasoning on the wheel torque at 45lb's is, think about squeezing a balloon with 2 fingers, and the outward pressure on the balloon is tramendes. That aluminum is soft and on a cart wheel thin, so as I was tightening it, that vision was running througth my mind, and I was thinking 'stress cracks", so I went with less torque.
Mine have been on for over 500 mi. and after torqueing them the second time they have never come loose. 90 lb's on a 3000 lb car yes, on a 800 lb golf car... no. Just my opinion, Mike |

Mike Mac
Thanks for the reply. I like your reasoning also. I think I will go with something in the middle and just make sure I check them often for a while. I finished up the motor, controller, solenoid, wires and F/R switch and tried it out today on the jack stands. Everything went great but the cart direction was revered. That was easy only a couple wires to switch then it was fine. Hope to get the body parts back on Monday or Tuesday and then get it on road in couple days. Phil |
