Default Jakes lift NOT wheelie proof

I installed the re-arched leaf springs and it really raised the rear end, so I took my cart to the shop that installed the Jakes long travel lift originally to raise it up as far as it would go. Got it back yesterday finally and went to my friends shop and took off the 23 inch 489's and put on these 26 inch Swamp Lites. Cart looks awesome, big as he!!. It's 22.5 inches now from the ground to the floorboard. So being a bonehead and wanting to show off a bit to the guys at the garage, I backed up about 2 foot, put it in drive and nailed it. Rode a wheelie about 20 feet across the parking lot and when I let it come down, it bent the plate that has the J (well....L in my case) at the point where the shocks mount. Bent it so bad on both sides that the shocks nearly popped off. I know, I know...this thread is useless without pics. I'll add pics tomorrow when my son is here and can do it.

I just wanna know who was holding your beer, because every time I hear a story like this it starts with "Here, hold my beer and watch this..."

Seriously though, that's too bad. Is the bent part replaceable, or would there be welding involved?

As luck would have it, since this plate was a factory defect because it had the J stamped backwards in it, Jakes graciously sent me a new replacement plate with the correct J stamp. I've had it now for a while and really wasn't gonna use it, but now I have to.

yes I did luck out, I'm thinking about cutting off the flanges on the L plate and then bolting the 2 plates together through several of the holes where the shocks mount. So instead of the plate only being 3/16th's, it'll make it 3/8th's thick. That or quit doing wheelies!

Bud Light DID play a part in the bending of this plate.

What year is your cart? Mine is a 97 and I moved my mounts to the 7" hole and bent the J plate as well. I spoke with Jake's today and was told not to go beyond the 6" mounting hole on the earlier type steering cause it puts the system in to much a bind. The instructions didn't say anything about that. I can buy a new plate if I want one. Kinda mad about that, I think they should send me a new since their instructions didn't say not to use those holes unless I buy new shorter shocks! I was able to beat it back in shape but its not as pretty now.

Actually, Gorno, in this case, shouldn't it be, "Dude, hold my J, man."
