Steering question / input
I have a question for anyone that may have some helpful info. I am looking at putting a stock RZR steering rack in my 94 electric EZGO. Can anyone tell me if this would fit and work or would this be a waste to try. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Steering question / input
It's like anything else, if YOU want to do it and put the time into it it'll work(or you can make it work) What are you looking for as a benefit after this? I'm sure it would work fine with some time and work, some guys like Cougarman have used aftermarket racks w/ quad suspension with good results. Are you doing it because your adding travel/shocks, width, or what? If it's going to be close to stock, the stock CC stuff works pretty well. Good Luck!

Re: Steering question / input
You can make it work, but some trial and error may be needed. Take measurements of the rack travel lock to lock (all the way to one side, then to the other side) to get an idea of what you have for rack travel. Do the same with your factory steering from a fixed point on the cart in line with the steering travel (or as close to it as possible) and compare the two to ensure the RZR rack has the correct ammount of travel for your cart's steering geometry. I did this, and wound up with a center load HD sand car rack for my Yamaha. You wil also likely have to fabricate things like a rack mount, steering shaft, tie rods, etc. Good luck, and take lots of pics!

Re: Steering question / input
The reason I was asking is that I have completely modified the front and thought why not. This is what Im working with.
2.jpg Kelly could you post some more pics of the front end of yours? I would like to see it wheel to wheel in detail. Yours looks great. |

Re: Steering question / input
I will try to also post up some pics for you on a similar build to kelly, I did an atv front suspension and used a dune buggy rack. There is a lot of trial and error, work, and mor WORK to make it work.....
There are a few different things you need to keep in mind from all the research i went through when designing rack location. One is you want to keep your tie rods as parallel to the a arms as you can keep them. If you don't it will create MAJOR bump steer during suspension travel. Another thing is if you can get a rack where the eyelets of the rack are close to the eyelet of your a arm mounting points the better. You want everything to flow together and not work against eachother when they are in motion. Another things is the angle of the tie rod going from spindle to your rack. I read somewhere online that you want a little angle ( front to back ) so at full turn things don't try to lock out. The best was i could get my mind around it is that you don't want at full turn to go past a certain point of pivot in the spindle. Like to the point of the spindle kinda coming back forward if that makes sense. Next but not last would be the clearancefor your tie rods in motion around your shocks, frame and anything else during the natural travel of your shocks and turning of the wheels. The last major point i would share is that you have a lot of work ahead of you laying out the steering shaft back through the firewall/floor deally... I have 3 unjoints in mine just to get it back to where the steering wheel is needed to be. TACK WELD EVERYTHING AND TRY IT ALL OUT BEFORE YOU MAKE THOSE FINAL WELDS..lmao.. In review: 1) Angle of tie rod parallel with a arms 2) Actual angle to and from spindle to rack 3) Clearance of everything 4) Building the steering shaft Most all of my steering parts came from Dans performance parts http://www.dansperformanceparts.com/ which is dune buggies. Got the R&P from there, steering shaft and all my u joints. The Tie rods are custom made with tie rod ends from speedway motors http://www.speedwaymotors.com/ i used 1/2" ends for my tie rods... Hope some of this helps you out... James |
