Not trying to start a war!
Well what is the advantage of having 48 volt over a 36 volt? I have heard conflicting opionions on this. Like I said this will be my first cart I just do not want to get something that I will be disappointed in.

36v=350 Chevy easy to mod and parts are reasonably priced. Both can be made to run, it just depends on the system being built correctly. It all really depends on your setup and what you want it to do. If you have an older cart that originally came as 36v, it will cost you to upgrade to a 48v system. The bottom line is how fast do you want to go, how much weight do you need to carry and how many hills do you have to climb. 36 or 48 can both be made to do what you want, but if you need to buy some new parts and you want to get the most for your money, then a full 48v conversion should be considered. My advice: Keep reading the forums, especially the Extreme D.C. and then decide for your self. The price of batteries is close, and the replacement parts are close in price too, so if you are buying your first cart, and you need to have plenty of power, buy a 48v and then take good care of it. |

Re: Not trying to start a war!
People only convert to 48 volt because it would be running a 36 motor.
48 volts on a 36 volt motor is (typically) faster with more torque than 48 volts on a 48 volt motor. 48 volt batteries are more expensive more availible mods for 36 volts Usually cheaper to mod 36v system. |

Re: Not trying to start a war!
Big disappointment driving my first 48v cart and realizing it was not faster or stronger than the old 36v carts.......

Re: Not trying to start a war!
As I posted in another thread this morning, it's night and day in the run time between the two. I played golf for 9 hours this past weekend and my SOC never got below the 1/2 mark. That's pretty darned impressive to me. That cart last longer than I do in a day.
Be reminded that my cart is heavy while on the golf course. The rear flip/flop seat, two bags of clubs, cooler, 8 batteries, two adults (one 220 lbs and one 120 lbs) heavy tires/rims, oh, the wife's 40 lbs purse , etc. Plus I ran the crap out of it crossing the course several times to pick up oddballs holes during the rounds. I also never felt it getting "weak". Close to the end of the day, when it punched it, it responded as if it had a fresh charge of batteries. |
