Clutch upgrade
Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and looking for some help on making the right choice on some clutch work on my 96 ezgo cart. I'm going through the motor right now and was thinking about going with a clutch upgrade. The kit I'm thinking about going with is the clutch spring combo kit from buggies unlimited. Sounds like heavier spring in both drive and driven with a ignition switch change so the cart will idle without moving. I use the cart in a campground with some off road. Will I be happy with doing this because I use it in the campground more than off road.My cart is lifted with atv tires
Thanks |

Re: Clutch upgrade
Buggies sells junk. What year & engine do you have? Don't waste time putting $$$ in old clutches

Re: Clutch upgrade
Stick with stock clutches - replace both with new belts. I suggest getting the 28 degree secondary. We have them in stock, if you need them.

Re: Clutch upgrade
First off, welcome to the BGW forums
Perhaps if we had a little background info, we may be able to come up with a better solution than the stiffer springs or running out and spending $500 on clutches. Whats the problem or the reason for wanting it to run all the time? |

Re: Clutch upgrade
I'm just looking for a little more low end snot. I have the motor out and the clutch's pulled apart. I'm going to replace the pins on the drive clutch for the weights they show a little wear. The driven rams are in need of replacement also. both clutchs are in pretty good shape. The cart lacks hill climbing ability.I also have this problem if I dont go easy on start up it jerks when it takes off. I'd like to get a little more low end and smoother take off. I was reading some other threads and I see you talk about a shorter belt I'm currently running a Intercoastal 72044g01 belt.

Re: Clutch upgrade
Yellow - There are alot of really smart builders in here with some GREAT advice. However, please remember, you are dealing with a 12 year old cart and in all my years as a Factory EZGO Dealership, I have NEVER seen a 1996 with good clutches. I don't care if you buy from us, but before you start machining and re-springing, consider that your time and parts purchasing may go to waste.
My 2 cents... |

Re: Clutch upgrade
I am not familiar with ez go. But with my 98 northern(as in not run for 12 months a year) cc the clutches were fairly badly worn on the faces. I replaced them both with a new belt and thnigs were a whole lot better.
If we ever get slow at work I am going to sneak in and do a bit of "government work" and remachine them both. I am just curious what a machined clutch will feel like. just my .02 -Aaron |
