Default heavily modified 79' off road e-z-go

i was given a 1979 e-z-go when a customer needed a cheap clutch for his.
cart came without an engine and decided i wanted to make a off road bug type cart out of it. i stripped all the body and excess metal off of it so i could use the main frame. im planning on replacing the current struts and springs with coilovers and as for an engine a motorcycle engine of an unknown size. how much power can a stock 79 differential hold?

I'd love to do one of those. The issue is they take a fair amount of power at higher rpm if you don't drop the clutch on them. So the guys running MC engines they rev so high, they just take off at low rpm and step on the gas....you only get the big power at high rpm and there is enough to burn them without popping the clutch or anything once you get moving. In particular the smaller 600cc the rpm are very high, they hardly even shift the one guy was saying because the rpm increases speed so much. However posi would be nice to have. Check out the big block MC section lots of good info there. On the other hand you could go with say a large 4 stroke dirt bike engine, they should work well too. They might be heavy but even a normal road bike engine should have a milder powerband, but most go for the rice rocket engine and the are the right size.

ive decided to ditch the old rear end and switch it over to a live axel with atleast a 60 tooth sprocket with the same coilover supension, 12" front and 14" rear. im also going to move the pivot point in the middle 8 inches back to give mor room for a one seat and shifter and a little leg room.
