Issue with Jake's 3" Lift Kit on gas RXV
I am trying to install a 3" Jake's Lift Kit on my new Ex-Go RXV gas golf cart.
1.) The kit is the 7212-3LD and am having an problem getting the drivers side rear aluminum spacer to fit; I will NOT go into position, due to hitting the bracket that holds the rear brake in place. What gives? Do I have to grind this bracket down? (Don't like this, because it will screw up the brake cable mount.) 2.) The instructions tell you to remove the battery and re-route the brake cable and to drill a new hole thru the plastic frame member. This looks like to me to further aggravate the problem with the cable being shorter now, due to the cart rising up. What did you guys do on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! I will call Jake's on Monday, but was wanted to get this done today (Sunday) on my only day off. |

Re: Issue with Jake's 3" Lift Kit on gas RXV
I am currently installing a 6" Jake's lift on my 09 RXV and I am finding these issues also.
I believe that because we have a newer model of cart is why we are having problems getting answers for others, because there just isn't many out there that has lifted the RXV... |

Re: Issue with Jake's 3" Lift Kit on gas RXV
Yeah, I know what you mean!
What I had to end up doing was cutting the tab COMPLETELY off that the rear brake mounts to, and re-drill a hole closer to the inside for it. Didn't like doing this because it changed the geometry and angle of the cable wire, how it moves in and out of the black brake cable. I tried grinding on it for a while, but was not getting near enough; So I had to go drastic and get the hacksaw out! OUCH! Did not want to do that. This allowed the aluminum spacers to be able to stand straight up and be seated into the "pockets" over the rear axle. I had to adjust the brakes to get a little more free-play out of them also. Did you get your 6" lift kit installed yet. I bought the 3" kit, because I have clearance issues in the back of my 5th wheel toy-hauler. The kit is actually about 5". Yep, I even call Jake's and they said there is really no such thing as a 3" lift kit. Uhhhh, I think they need to do a little more engineering on this lift kit, cause "no cutting or drilling is necessary" definitely did not fit here! Merry Christmas! |

Re: Issue with Jake's 3" Lift Kit on gas RXV
SHAME ON JAKES!! I am having the very same issue and I contacted them and they said a "little" grinding may be necessary - thats Bull you would have to take off almost 3/4 of an inch and redrill the hole to make this work!!
LOTS of cutting and drilling needed - I'm mad that they seem to know this problem exists but are not doing anything about it - this thread was started 2 years ago and there have been no redesigns of these RXV parts Im in contact with Jakes and here is the reply from Glen Franklin the VP of sales ’m sorry you’re disappointed but as I stated the cart we have here to make a lift kit for did NOT require any grinding be done to the brake bracket. If it did we most certainly would’ve designed the rear risers a little differently. We can not control when the OEMS do not have tolerances for parts and therefore a part might be bent more than another part when it should be exactly the same. The pictures on the instructions show a brand new EZGO RXV and you can tell the bracket we have on our cart is not bent as severely as yours. |

Re: Issue with Jake's 3" Lift Kit on gas RXV
We have only ever had one customer call us with this problem and he told us he made it work with grinding very little off the rear brake mount. We do care about all of our customers and have a brand new EZGO RXV on the way to the shop to redesign the rear risers. As we stated in the email to Johnhud we have a brand new 2008 EZGO RXV at our shop for which we designed the lift kit and the rear brake cable mount and it does NOT hit. If it did we would have designed the rear lift mounts differently. EZGO must have changed manufactures of the rear brake cable mount sometime in 2010. We will get a cart here and get to re-designing the rear lift so it will work with both mounts. Thanks for your understanding.

Re: Issue with Jake's 3" Lift Kit on gas RXV
I recently purchase the Rhox 3" kit for my 2010 RXV. It has the exact same issue. I had to cut the riser block, cut the left rear brake bracket, and re-drill the dole for the cable in the bracket. Certainly not 'bolt-on". 2 companies make a part with the exact same issue. They could make a simple modification to the left side components and eliminate this issue completely.

Jakes, as your last response was greater than 1.5 years ago, have you corrected this on the newer carts, ( I have a 2011 rxv), and are they now available? Thanks in advance.

Re: Issue with Jake's 3" Lift Kit on gas RXV
I installed a jakes 6 inch on my workhorse this week end. another thing they need to do is to add on their directions that you need to run a tap thru the threads on any nut on the brackets that had been powder coated. the rear axle bracket on my kit had so much powder coating on them I had to dig it out before I could get a tap to go thru the nut. also, were the front tie rod goes into the seat on the tie rod riser, I had to take a dremel tool to it so the tie rod end would seat correctly. nice kit but some better directions and quality control would help. some people installing their own kit may not be able to do some of the things I had to do. I also understand that lifting a golf cart could make it unstable but it does not require you to buy bigger wheels just to clear from installing a lift. they told me that my stock 8 inch wheels would not work but they do and don't rub any place.

Yes, due to the issue with the brake cable bracket being changed from EZGO we now supply a brake cable bracket with the RXV gas lift kit.
