Lifting a PDS EZGO and keeping the 300 amp controller?
I would like to put a drop axle 5' lift with 22 inch tires on a 8' rim on my 2006 ezgo electric pds. However I dont want it to cost $1000 to do it. I have read that if you do this and dont change out the controller to a 400 amp it will lose alot of torque. I ride this cart in some wooded trails by my house and the cart does fine up the hills atm with a low chip in and stock everything else. Im afraid if I lift it I will not be able to climb them. Anyone have any exp with this?

It will work for a while but yes it will lose torque and yes it will die quicker. Standard PDS controller is I believe 275 amps. It just isn't made for it. I have heard of people that are ok after doing what you ask but any kind of extra weight or hills will overheat the controller. Sorry

Agreed. You won't be happy with the setup. It will be only good for flat smooth surfaces. Mine was almost embarrassing after putting on the larger wheels/tires, rear seat, etc., before changing out the controller/solenoid. I even had my 77 year old mother pass me one day...... and she was walking! No, but she did pass me on her CC before I upgraded my power. She can't pass me now since it will push 29 MPH!

agreed as above.
you can upgrade to 4ga wires. it will help some, but not really what you want. If you want to do the lift go with a 20" tire. you will keep your gear ratio and it will help on the hills. or just put 20" tires on your cart w/o lift. |

Re: Lifting a PDS EZGO and keeping the 300 amp controller?
All posts above are true. The controllers are 275 amp, and the 36 volt setup doesn't really push enough amperage. Another observation....You can't run stock 8" wheels with a lift because of straight bell. You need an offset wheel or at least wheel spacers to make the lift kit work. I wasn't sure if you knew that or not... I priced some parts at about $515 for 8" offset wheels and 22" mudbuster tires for $515 plus shipping, but the controller is another $410 or so for a programable 400 amp alltrax.... It would be slow without it, but you may could buy the lift, wheels, and tires, and save up for a controller, solenoid, and cables... Just my two cents...
