Default question about cutting frame for a Z lift

Hi guys, fabbing up my home brew Z and wanted to ask someone with experience, do you actually remove a section of frame or just cut it? seems like if you didn't remove any you wheelbase would increase 2 or so inches.

Check with CC. owners first!! As I understand, this is a bad way to go! So find out before you cut!

Alot people don't like it. I had one, drove the carp out of it offroad and never could break it. It's still going strong far as a I know.

I'm confident, the drop bracket I made is plenty strong, I did end up cutting out a chunk of frame to preserve wheel base in relation to the body fenders, I can still play with adjustment for I haven't drilled any holes yet only clamped in place for now, I'll be posting some pictures later.

as I recall a factory one cuts out 4 inches of frame but does not change the wheelbase much. the advantage of stretching the wheel base is that you can run a larger tire without as much lift. the rear of the cart will have more clearance but not a lot. did you flop the rear axle to the bottom of the leaf springs?

I used to think it was a bad idea too, until I made my own. Now I wouldnt lift it any other way. IMO its the best way to lift a Club Car.

I made new spring perches 2-1/2" tall, leveled them up and welded atop the axle housing directy above the lower ones for total of about 5-1/2 rear lift.
I just finished the front and took it all back apart for paint.

I was reluctant to cut the frame but it's not like a 427 COBRA it's just a stinkin golf cart for crying out loud.
Anyhow, I don't have hundreds of dollars pis away on a lift but I do have a welder and tons of scrap steel, this cart was destin for the trash pickup when I intercepted it, so far I have 0 dollars into it.
It's ok Mike, frame cutting isn't extreme as it sounds, I'm newb and stupid but learning fast.

ok gotta back up a couple steps. I would NEVER make the z out of mpre than 1 piece. find a big piece of flat stock and cut it out. if you keep that one i would weld strapping over it as a brace. it may only be a golf cart, but if you loose the front end after a jump or going 20+down the road it is gonna hurt!

also for the rear you should have assembled it and rotated the engine pan to the correct angle before welding. if yours are welded exactly parallel over the stockers, you are going to have to make a new mount for the front of the engine pan to mount it and keep the snubber. the snubber can be mounted in a new cradle under the frame, or with a drop bracket in the stock location
