8 6 volt or 6 8 volt for 48v upgrade
I am upgrading my cart to 48 volts and would like to know if anybody has experience with which option is better, 6 8 volt batteries of 8 6 volt? I have the Alltrax AXE controller and am going to upgrade the motor. Any input would be appreciated....

Welcome to BGW. Add up the amp hour ratings of your 8v batteries and your 6v batteries & you will see the difference in available amperage

Seems like it is no question the 6 volts are the way to go...

If you have the space, and can acommodate the weight, 8-6v batteries are the way to go. Incredible range!

Re: 8 6 volt or 6 8 volt for 48v upgrade
Last post on this question, if I use the 6 8 volts will I at least get the same or better run time than with the 6 6 volts when it was stock? I will be keeping the motor stock for the moment.....
Thanks |

You should get about the same, as long as you stay out of the pedal. It all depends on what you ask the cart to do. The newfound speed can make you a more aggressive driver. It did in my case, but I went with 8-6v so I get more range anyway.

Re: 8 6 volt or 6 8 volt for 48v upgrade
ok. here is my experience. i really don't care one way or the other, but if i had to do it over again, i would go to 6 eights. i don't care about the bagwell room. just less maintainence on the batts. they would all be in the tray.
now this is because of my limited carting area. i rarely go 2 notches down on the voltage meter. just down to the lake, walk the dog, roam about and home. |

Seems like the travel distance will be about the same. Little less run time but got there faster versus running longer but slower. Also, will going to a 500 amp controller from the Alltrax 400 amp gain me anything with the stock motor and the 48 volt upgrade?

4-500 amps? More amperage = more torque.
