Unhappy 2008 ez go st sport II lift kit help?

I am a little confused. I bought some new 12 inch rims and 23 inch tires for my cart, a 1008 st sport II with the subaru/robins engine - 350. The guy said they would work without a lift. Of course, they wouldn't, but he was most generous and sent me a new lift kit for it. He asked was it 3 or 4 bolt steering? 4 bolt. He asked if the brake cables ran under the rear axle? yes. He sent me a Rhox kit for 2001.5 -curent txt 6 inch spindle lift. I started on the back, and i'm confused. The directions say to get rid of the existing hardware, u bolt, etc, but my axles are held on with a big cast piece with a rubber boot inside. If I get rid of that, the blocks that are in the kit that sit on top of the axle do not fit all the way down on the axle. They only will go a little piece like they're for a smaller axle. Did he send me the wrong lift for my cart? Should I force the blocks down on the axle? I thought I have researched this a lot before I tackled it, and I am stumped. Please help. I've got my cart torn down, and it's getting dark. I have seen on here where others have just turned that cast housing over and put the springs on top of the axle, but do you know if the spindle part would work on the front? Thanks for all your time and patience. I wouldn't ask, but I'm in a jam.

Cool Re: 2008 ez go st sport II lift kit help?

Ok Guys, I figured it out. Nothing a little tapping with a hammer to get the spacer block down on the axle. Got it back together about 10 last night. I'm gonna tackle the front today. I think that this 6 inch kit is a little excessive for what I needed though. My shocks are stretched out to the fullest and the brake cables just will reach. I'm starting to think I should have just went with the factory economy lift. Thanks for your time in reading this, and please let me know if I need to get longer or stiffer shocks.
Thanks

Your lift kit should have included shock extenders for the rear. Im not a huge fan of them, but they work pretty good. Ive used them on a few lift kits with no problems.

Also keep an eye on your brake cables. If they are close to being to short they might fit OK but when you apply the brakes the axle may roll enough to jam the brakes on.
Post up some pics of your work.

And Welcome to BGW!!!

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD REASON TO PULL THE OEM BRAKES AND PUT HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKES

Smile Re: 2008 ez go st sport II lift kit help?

Thanks for all the advice. I would love disc brakes, but after the tires and wheels, I'm stretched at Christmas time with a 3 year old wanting every Toy Story and Thomas the Train toy imagineable. I just rerouted the brake cable a little, and it seems to work ok now. The kit the guy sent me didn't have any shock extenders, but I'll get some from carquest or somewhere. I've got the front end off, but I can't get the ball joints out. I have a prickle fork, but I think it's too big. It's for car ball joints. Is there a special size I need? I'm new to front end work, and I don't want to screw up and ruin the ball joints. Guys, I really appreciate your input and the warm welcome. I know a lot of this stuff has probably been discussed a lot on here, but I haven't been able to find the answers I needed so I started this thread, and I appreciate that I didn't get reamed for my questions. The folks on here are some of the nicest people of any forum I'm a member of. This is the first cart forum I've joined, and I'm glad I did. Thanks for your help again.

Most of us don't have a problem if it has been covered before, it's just when some people think we are here to do their research or other leg work for them while they sit and eat Ho Ho's and make no effort to learn.

Anyhoo, Because of the 7* taper on the ball joint and arm they can be a little stubborn.
I'm sure there is a small pickle fork or even a small puller for them but here's my way.
Hold a large ballpeen hammer on one side of the arm where the tierod goes through and hit the oposite side with another BFH.

This flexes the tapper are just enough to pop the tierod loose.
Might also help to have an extra hand put a little prying pressure on the tierod but it works.

Talking Re: 2008 ez go st sport II lift kit help?

Thanks for the trick for the ball joints. I spent about 2.5 hours trying to beat them out. Finally, I took one of the spindles off, unscrewed the ball joint from the arm and took it to a local cart repair shop. They just beat it out and tried to sell me a new ball joint for $60 because a 15 year old kid that was in the garage for some reason picked it up and said, "You need a new one." Both of my ball joints have no lateral play in them when you try to pull it apart. The cart has less than 40 hours on it. I bought it new and have used it very little. I checked those ball joints on shopezgo.com and I think I can get the whole assembly with the rod and 2 ball joints for $57, and they have another 15% off coupon code now too. Anyway, I got it all back together about 7pm last night. She looks good. She is sitting a lot higher than i expected though. I think I'm going to save up and get the 4 inch factory lift, and set her back down a little. Oh well, the guy sent me the 6inch lift for free, that's right, no charge, so you know I just had to try it out, but I didn't think 6 inches would make that drastic of a difference. I'll post some pics as quickly as I can so you guys can check her out. Thanks again for your help and advice.

Now, I agree with you! I got to look at the cart in the daylight, and I love it! I took it to the hunting club yesterday, and got so many compliments on the lift and wheels. I took it through some spots I had been unwilling to go before due to the limited factory clearance, and she passed with flying colors. Very impressive ride also, a little less rough on the roots/bumps. Thanks for all the advice, and Merry Christmas!
