golfcart thingy build
I've been asked to do a build thread on this golfcart thingy build i'm finishing up on....
It started out as a purchase of a 48v club car from a friend for almost nothing. See pic below.... After some diagnosis I decided since all batteries were gone and pricing out a charger and new batteries, it wasn't worth the effort or money. |

While contemplating what to do, I thought about trying to put some sammi axles under it. I had a pair lying around for a single seater tube buggy build I was planning. I thought of putting a sammy Divorced T-Case under it and run it off a V-twin engine in the 24 HP range Axle Pic Below

While searching for the T-case, I found a non running rolled Sammy for once again, almost nothing. You can probably see where this is going

I pulled the tires and wheels off of my CJ for mock up I used 33" x 12.50 Truxus MT's. I started trying to mount the cart body and frame on the sammy frame. After a few tries I decided to build my own frame, trim the body and stretch it to fit

After trying to narrow down the rough runnig engine, I ran a compression test, and dead on 2 cylinders. After rebuilding the engine, I grabed and old stromberg off a 49 ford, made an adapter plate, and presto, running engine. This carb works great. I also made a diamond plate dash, with guages and push button start. Installed a hand throttle, Found and installed a el-cheap-o tachometer on the column. I was able to save the passenger pocket and drink holder. I also mounted up the parking break from the sammy. The scary thing is that the steering shaft knuckles were the same from the sammy as the cart, absolutely the same... I used 8" pvc drain pipe for the Transmission tunnel, now that's redneck.... Eventually I will fiberglass over this for a finished tunnel.......
