Best Mild to Moderate lift
Just got an '05 EZ GO. Will be doing mild to moderate off road riding but will also do so riding on the road to get from one piece of land to the other. Suggestions as to what lift/wheel and tire set up to use... Would love some pics that describe lift and wheel/tire set up. Thanks.

Re: Best Mild to Moderate lift
Well do you have any idea as to how much lift you want?
to my knowledge there are lifts as small as 2" up to 8". from the way it sounds you would probably be happiest with either a 3" spindle lift or a 4" drop axle w/ a set of 22" all terrain tires. I would suggest a brand, but I will say just check with the site sponsors or a local dealer. To me personally a spindle lift is the best way to go if you are not going to be baja racing or rock crawling. There are a few places online that even have package deals with a lift, tires, and wheels. Take a look on ebay just to get a general idea as to what you want and go from there. |

I was thinking in the 4-6 in range. What are the pros and cons of the spindle and drop axle? I would like clerance underneath. I guess I always hear that Jake's is supposed to be the best on lifts but I didn't kow if some others that are cheaper are just as good.

Re: Best Mild to Moderate lift
Jake's is what I have on my cart now. I like the spindle lift because it lengthens and widens the wheel base for added stability. Jake's offers a 3" an d a 6" spindle lift for the same price, so its just up to you to decide which one to go with. A drop axle kit does not widen the wheelbase, only lifts it, which to me means less stability.
I would suggest going and looking at a cart with a 3" and a 6" to see which you like. To me, the 3" was not high enough to make it worth $300. With a 6" spindle lift you will get a lot of ground clearance and should be able to run 22 or 23" tires. |

Re: Best Mild to Moderate lift
I have the 5" drop axle. Yes it widens the stance also. I have 22" saharahs on off set 8" rims. Steady and true at all speeds. One thing you need to think about on lifts is they all lift and they all have the same basic clearances in the long run. You may think the spindle lift looks like you get more clearance, maybe a couple inches inside the tire, but the clearances in the middle of the body where the motor mount, and then the rear axle pumpkin are only lifted so much. The tires are the only thing that really adds clearance in these spots. I can go over big rocks, logs, etc.. but if they are too tall you high center and are just as stuck! Go tall for looks, but taller tires are what really gives clearance. The lifts really only allow you to go with bigger tires.

Re: Best Mild to Moderate lift
Agreed, you need the tires the lift is only so you can get them. I'd make sure you can run 22s minimum, and then you get a large selection of tires. I run trail pros I got a long time ago, they work great for trails and limited road use, just a large knob tire. Get an ATV rated tire they don't get punctures like 2 ply can, and are stiffer in the sidewall. If you have to go down roads get a tire with a center band or offset tread, the huge mud tires are not very nice on roads. If you offroad you want an aggressive tire though, that is why everyone runs them. I can roll right over beach sand no problem, but not too much mud they plug up. But I don't hit mud much its usually rutted wooded trails and sand and these don't tear up yards another thing I needed. A lot of people run the desert type tires for road use they have a smooth tread and more flat tread. My tires are rounded so they will wear the center of the tread first. But they have held up really well I hardy run pavement at all but do lots of gravel/dirt/wooded/sand. Of course some of the desert tires are not good in mud, you need to go really aggressive for that. With a cart you don't want to spin.
