Show me your rack!!!!
Gun rack that is . I have found several different ways to hold my rifle while riding around in the woods but cannot decide. I know I do not want the floor mount because I like having all the space up front. I was thinking about making something like in the picture????? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Show me your rack!!!!
I helped a friend mount one of these on either side of the rear seat on his hunting buggy. On the arm rest. They just clamp on.

I just kept is very simple and put two screw in hooks that you hang bicycle's from. It works great for one gun but that's all I need.

Re: Show me your rack!!!!
I'm still fine tuning my idea. I didn't want to lose a lot of floor space up front either, but I also wasn't hot about them being behind the seat. I have a workhorse, so I have the dump bed to think about.
I've looked at a gun mount similar to the one in the previous post. I've been toying with the idea of mounting one of those to the dash, or to some sort of support. Only I'd mount it with a hinge. This way the gun rack can be either folded up or down, depending on the support, and maybe held back with a bit of velcro so it won't swing around when not in use. When you need the rack you swing it into position and put the gun in the rack. When not in use it would swing back out of the way and the velcro would keep it from moving around. I've been thinking of making a dash basket. I thought it might be possible to attach a support from the basket and the gun rack would attach to the support. You might be able to hinge the rack so when not in use you flip it up and it would lay on top of the dash basket. Again velcro would keep it from bouncing around when not in use. Edited to add. Look at the basket in the post before mine. Envision the double rack from the earlier post attached to the front of that basket by a hinge. Flip it out for use, flip it back over the rack when not in use. This would keep it out of the way when not needed. |

Re: Show me your rack!!!!
This is a decision I have been trying to figure out, as well. I like the way the floor mount looks, but it takes up floor space. With that said, it's the best one for being able to quickly grab a gun. I don't want to have to get out and reach behind me.
Decisions... Decisions.... Oh yea, I almost forgot... A guy down the street has the rocker panels with the built in floorboards. He has gun mounts on those. So, the guns stand up and don't use the floor space. Bad thing is that I don't want running boards on my cart.... Or, my gun out there where water get's slung. |

Re: Show me your rack!!!!
I'm going to be looking at something like this soon also. I'll probably end up getting something like the second post (or maybe like the ones with suction cups that go in your truck window, removing them and bolting them onto the roof supports), and mounting it behind my head on the inside or outside above the bed (that I will get soon hopefully). I was going to look at the floor mount, but now i'm starting to think that I don't want to give up the floor space. Like rusty said, they also make roof racks for above your head, but I don't know how sturdy they are with all of the shaking the roof does.

Re: Show me your rack!!!!
One thing I've been thinking about is, what if I decide to use come sort of cover while hunting in the winter. Now a gun laying crossways may be a lot harder to get out.
Floor space is important, and none of us want to lose any of that. What if the gun sat at about a 45 degree angle with the butt near the engine, and the barrel pointed towards the windshield. Place the gun holder in the middle between the two passengers. Again you could use a gun rack similar to the one in the link shown in this thread. Now the one near the engine compartment could be attached to the front of the engine cover near the floor with a hinge. When not is use it would fold up against the engine cover and could be held with velcro. This way just a pull down and it would be ready to hold the butt of the gun. Another rack on the dash and you should be set. For me the key is to make them easy to get out of the way so when not in use they don't take up space. |

Re: Show me your rack!!!!
Even if you have a cover and mount It sideways across the back of you, it just lifts up. It shouldn't be too hard to get out.

Re: Show me your rack!!!!
what about one like in the second post but put it in the very top of the front cowl cross ways on the cart above the steering shaft?that way your not loosing floor space, they are easy to get to, they are in with you protected from the weather if you have an enclosure, and if you attach them with a wing nut or something if you dont want them on there during hunting season you just pop them off real quick.
