Tires Rubbing Solution/Options
Hello All,
I bought a 1996 Yamaha last year with the following options already installed: It is lifted but I do not know how high the lift is (from the ground to the bottom of the side board is 13 inches). Rear seat kit installed 22X11-8 knobby (round profile) tires installed The tires rub on the frame of the cart when making a sharp left or right turn and when you have people sitting on the rear seat the rear tires rub on the wheel well under the cart. In my efforts to eliminate the rubbing, I have installed 2 inch wheel extensions on the front of the cart. Recently I purchased and installed Kenda Bear Claw 22X12-8 tires with a flatter profile. The problem is still there with the tires rubbing on the frame of the cart and the fender flares. Obviously the width is an issue as is the .80 inch tread. I am prepared to try a different set of tires if someone has a recommendation. Would it be better to go down to a 20 inch tire or stick with a 22 inch tire with a smaller tread? Should I look at lifting the cart up higher? Are there other options that would be equally as effective as changing out the tires? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help and time. |

Are you using offset rims?
Try to post a pic of the front end |

Hello 2monsters,
standard 8 inch golf cart rims from what I know. Pictures are taken from when the cart was purchased before adding the wheel extensions, fender flares, or trying the new tires. Thank you for your help and time. |

Re: Tires Rubbing Solution/Options
here is a description describing offset rims:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...tml#post583414 I used 3-4 offset rims with 1" spacers on my cart. I also used spacers on the back. Imo it gives the cart more stability in off road situations. Is this just on the front or back or both? |

Re: Tires Rubbing Solution/Options
Based on the diagram, the rims are zero offset. There are two inch spacers on the front tires for sure. I do not believe the rear tires have spacers on them (they did not spin nearly as much when putting on the new tires). So I could go with a positive offset rim as an option? I generally do not drive off road with the cart. It primarily stays on road at our campground. The more weight on the cart, the more likely the rear tires are to rub. Thank you again for your help and time.

Are the springs in the rear stock or HD springs? If they are stock you should look to upgrade to an HD spring, especially if you have people on the back. As far as the wheel wells go you can either trim them, or you can try drawing them together with zipties or tie wire.

I will have to look at the springs. They look pretty heavy duty (?) to me but I am a novice at this. I appreciate the guidance very much.

Hello Shriner,
I would have to look to be sure. Is there a number of leafs that generally indicates that they are HD or not? Thank you for your help and time. |

Re: Tires Rubbing Solution/Options
If it is a Yamaha it should have coilover springs on it, not leafs.
Where exactly is it rubbing? Front or rear, you mention rubbing when you turn right or left but then rear fender wells. It shouldn't rub with 22s on it so don't buy anything else just yet. Can you post more pictures closer of the front and rear suspension please. |
