Default 87 Lifted G1

Got my lift installed and now am thinking about a roll cage. Anyone every make one for a G1? Thinking about trying a split design making the pivot points in the nerf bar area. Being able to disconnect in the middle to allow the back to be opened. Crazy maybe, but doable?!?!

It can be done. I would recommend getting the proper type of tube clamp for the attachment points.

I'm going to take some measurements, draw something up and will post it soon. Thanks for the advice Kelly! Is there a name brand on that clamp?

I think you can get them from a few places, I found some at Ballistic Fabrication. They're not cheap, but when is safety ever cheap?

i was planing on doing a roll bar design myself, using 2 1/4in exhaust sticks. Using a pipe bender to form it like i want it so i can still fit another seat on the back. What size is Your lift?

I would caution against using exhaust tubing for a roll bar due to its lack of strength. I plan on using 1.5 inch .120 wall steel DOM tubing for the main hoops on my cage and standard .120 wall 1.5 inch steel tuing for the rest of the cage. That exhaust tubing would fold like a house of cards if it were ever really put to the test.

You could even get a way with 1 1/4 .120 for a cage cause you dont have the weight to fight like a car would if you roll it .... I'd just make sure its tied in to the frame good, cage isn't worth much if it isn't hooked to a soild foundation.

This is true, but there are many aftermarket brackets that bolt on to 1.5 inch tubing As for mine, it's a bit bigger than the average cart
