Default g2 with 16hp clone problems

I've got a 16hp clone that has been running fine for months but now its flooding. Gas is coming out the over flow on the carb. I've put a stronger spring in the carb and still does it. I've also put another carb on it and still the same thing. Im using the stock tank and fuel pump also.. replaced the fuel pump and still the same. Runs of a gravity feed tank with no problems. Anyone have a clue?

Might try a return line to the tank. I've read where some people have done that.

Your needle in the carb is sticking, come loose from the float, or not sealing off the fuel. The problem may also be a float with a leak in it causing to get fuel inside it, thereby not "floating". pull the carb and remove the bowl, then check your needle and seat condition and also shake the float and see if you hear fluid inside it.

Thanks for all the replys.. I've tried the return line to the tank and no difference... it did this once before shortly after I got the engine installed... I put a different spring in the carb and fixed the problem.. what im not understanding is I've put a perfectly working carb off of another motor and still does the same thing.

Maybe trash is your gas is clogging to needle. Just an uneducated guess!

either a sticking needle or too much fuel pressure

The clone I put in a G9 did that, finally put a return line near the carb to the tank. We used the intake spacer for a pulse that makes a strong pulse at idle and that is when it blew the float. I messed with the spring made it longer and still didn't work. Finally put a new kit in it and the return line its fine. It pumps a lot of fuel at idle. Next clone going to put pulse in the rocker cover. You can run a longer pulse line that weakens the signal. Most run a B&S or mikuni pump on the gokarts and they work fine on these, they are a smaller pump than the stock yamaha not real expensive or anything they might make less pressure. The yami pump also does not run direct off the crank case it has a valve in the line that bleeds off to the rocker or something.

This clone didn't dump fuel at first then started doing it after a couple weeks. You can also get an electric pump with low pressure some use those.

If I can figure out how to make a new intake to move the carb to the rear (it is very close in a yamaha) then I want to go to a motorcycle carb a klein or mikuni. I can't get the jetting quite right on this one I have hogged the main way out and little on the idle jet. It has a car airbox and muffler.

mine was doing that every time it sat. i pulled the check valve out of the fuel tank filler. it is there to presurize the tank, not needed with these clone motors. after pulling the parts out of the fuel filler it never happened again.

hope this helps
