Default Jakes Lift ok..but...

Put my 6" Jakes lift on the Yamaha G15 today. Did well until the last "A" arm. When putting the king pin back in somehow the thrust washer got bound up and the pin smashed it.

Since it is a washer, I was wondering if I could go to the local Fastenal and try to match up the washer for another one.

I hate to order from a parts department becasue I can't find any Yamaha parts department that would just have the washer. Seems I have to order the whole king-pin kit for both "A" arms...don;t need all the parts just the washer.

you could try and give one of the site sponsors a call and ask them if they can sell you just what you need, I've had good luck dealing with them so far.

Hard and brittle. Just so you didn't use a regular washer! But you knew that!

Found a replacement of all places a Sears hardware carried specialty washers. Same thickness just a tad bigger I.D. It will do the job.

Tried the suppliers on here first, they were all great but they do not sell just one or two of the washers needed...had to buy a bag of them. If that were to happen, I would spend the extra $$ and just get a king pin replacement kit with all the parts.

Should work...kings pins were a pain to get out~!!

Well, as it figures, I messed it up. So I ordered all new king pins and bushings. This time I will get the pins pressed in!

Get some emery cloth and emery out the bore in the spindle where the king pin goes to clean out rust. The king pin should almost slide in with light taps with a hammer. Reassemble using "never seize" (get a tube at auto parts store). Never seize king pins and spindle bore with a light coat. Never seize roll pins as well, light coat of grease in the bushing areas. Never seize, shanks of bolts where they go through the rubber bushings that attach the A arms to the frame. Same with shanks of the shock bolts. Think I read where the A arm bolts torque to 22#.

Good luck, this is suppose to be fun, get prepared and enjoy what your doing!

Just remembered, king pins only go in one way, can't remember for sure, but bottom up seems like the correct way. A dry run might be smart here, (king pin into Jakes A arm, from the bottom up), with out spindle.

Don't spend alot of time beating yourself up, **it happens!!
I just rebuilt a Seadoo jet pump for a ski and in the middle of it I dropped one of the roller bearings, roller pins went everywhere.
New one was $30.00 and a trip to Richmond.
It's all good at the end of the day!!
