Lifted Yamaha G2 Front End Shake
I bought a used Yamaha G2 this summer from craigslist. It came delivered to my house by the man and his boys who did the work and they seemed to know thier stuff and be pretty honest.
Everything was good for awhile but the cart has developed a front end shake when going down hill and picking up speed. If the road is flat and we catch no bumps it will stay steady but if it is going downhill and catches a bit of a bump the front end then starts to shake more and more unless I apply brake pressure and slow down. The cart is lifted and the front tires point in a bit on both sides as the previous owner said this was normal and required from the lift. I can supply pics if needed but was hoping someone had a good starting point to isolate and fix. Thanks JMax207 |

Re: Lifted Yamaha G2 Front End Shake
I think the first thing I would check is the tightness of all the nuts/bolts - starting with the wheels and moving on to the shocks, steering and lift bits. Simple to do, and FREE. If that doesn't solve the problem I would lift the front on jack stands and, grabbing each element of the front end, shake it vigorously to see if there is any play in the connections.

After you check the whole suspension for loose anything, need to bring that toe out. Need like a 1/16th toe to track right.

Re: Lifted Yamaha G2 Front End Shake
Sounds like some bad a arm bushings or tie rod ends. Doesn't sound safe until you get it resolved. Up on jack stands have someone move steering wheel back and forth, check the steering first. Hold the wheels still while moving the steering back and forth and look for movement in the tie rod ends. Also grab the a arms and move front to back and watch for movement on the bolts to the frame/bushings. There really shouldn't be any movement. Replace bushings if there is movement. Check hubs for movement up and down and side to side. If it has king pins check those for movement side to side. Good luck.

Re: Lifted Yamaha G2 Front End Shake
Set the front-end with about 1/8" toe-in(front of tires closer together than the rear).while someone sits on it.With the independent suspension the alignment angles change as the front-end cycles. If you normally run with 2 people, set the alignment with 2 in the seat.If it is toed-out it will shake, and wander, also may have quite a bit of bump-steer.As stated earlier, check the entire front-end for looseness.King-pin bushings(spindle) are common,as are tie-rod ends. With the cart on the ground, just have someone rock the steering-wheel back and forth kinda quik like a kid does when they are "pretending to drive",and look for any movement.Hope this helps.
