4x4 and 64 volt conversion
Hey guys i am noob to the forum i will be making a introduction thread soon. I am currently cartless me and my dad built one that we could take camping and recently sold it he will be looking to build up another one shortly. I am also considering getting one to build into a 4x4 setup that i can use around the farm and still hunt and take camping with. i have been looking around the site and found some information that was great. i am considering selling my highly modded out atv to build this cart to hunt with in south louisiana. i just cant see spending the money on a stealth 4x4 when i am capable of building one. When i told the wife about this she was excited cause she does not like my quad for riding and a cart would be perfect for me the dog and her. My dads cart we built was used everyday pretty much but couldnt really get beat on in the fields. his cart was an 05 ezgo pds with a 6in jakes knuckle lift 23x10.5x12 knobbies and itp type 7 wheels. we were running 2 12volt deep cycle batterys for accessories and interstate batterys on the cart if i recall it was 8 of them. it also had an on board charger for the accessories batterys. we also did all diamond plate floors and bash plates on it with flip rear seat and radio roof pod. painted it burnt orange. here is a photo of it loaded to go on my trailer with a friend of ours cart.
but here is what i am thinking of building guys hopefully you can lead me in the right direction on what brand cart i should start with. i would like to add the 4x4 system from imagineengineering.com. i was looking i would like a motor like they use on the stealth carts 130 torque. the rack on the front and flip seat rear. i would like to make is the 64 volt setup as i think that would get me the most range or a 72 volt setup? but i am clueless really to which is a better setup to run. i would also like to run a single or double accessories battery with off road lights and stereo system. of course i would like some black diamond plate trim parts and stuff. then for the tires i was thinking 26in big horns on 12 or 14in wheels. and maybe trimming the fenders and running cut out flares. oh and heavy duty springs on the rear. how does this setup sound guys is there something i am missing. of course i am just starting to think about this project i am currently about to build a house and that will be priority then the next thing will be this cart. my plan for it is to beable to hunt, ride the subdivision, bring it to work on the farm, and ride around camp grounds. thanks and i hope to get to know some of you guys,. |

Re: 4x4 and 64 volt conversion
I think you need a stretched frame cart to hold all those batteries you want to carry! I just purchased a front drive axle for my EZGO. I'm staying 36v till my batteries wear out, though. I only use one 12v battery for my accessories and have never required more. Lights, radio, power outlets, winch and all. Sometimes I'd put in 14-16 hour workdays on that cart.
What cart should you start with? You really cannot go wrong with a TXT. Easy to find, reasonably priced, tons of accessories, and they will take a beating! |

Re: 4x4 and 64 volt conversion
i was thinking a txt also. but on ours with the pds setup it seemed like the control would over heat when it was really loaded down.and it would stop and you have to give it say 10 minutes then it would go again. this was with brand new batterys also. the 64 volt setup i was looking at was 8 batterys like the 48 volt but the batterys were 8 volts each. i am thinking a single 12 volt with a small solar panel for winch and stuff. main thing i would want is the ability to turn 26in tires easy... i looked at the stealth cart stingray with the 15:1 reduction vs the 12:! reduction on the apache. seems like building something like the stingray would be more what i am looking for.

Re: 4x4 and 64 volt conversion
the oldest txt would be 1995 correct guys... i am thinking my best option will be to find a completely junk cart that doesnt have batteries motor or controller and just go from there.
any idea who makes the motors for stealth or a motor similar to that size with 30hp and 130 torque? |

Re: 4x4 and 64 volt conversion
I'm a big fan of imagineengineering.com. I've installed a few of their kits on both gas and electric. One thing you might not know is there new setup for $2500 you get high range and low range shift on the fly. It has 20:1 low range and 10:1 high range and an electric locker for the rear end. I know I might piss off a few people with this comment but I'd go Yamaha or EZ-GO with those kits. Stay away from Club Car. You'd have to go with an older CC to get it to work right cause they don't make a CW rotation setup and there are a few other problems I've encountered on the CC's with this kit. The electric DnD motor they include with the kit is actually a bit of a beast when matched with the right controller.

Re: 4x4 and 64 volt conversion
so go for an ezgo 48volt setup with the imangineengineering.com 4x4 kit and DnD motor with a controller? or should i shoot for a 72 volt setup with 4x4 kit with the ezgo cart?
