Default G9 convert to Rack/ Pinion steering

Any ideas on converting a G9 to rack steering. I am trying figure out how to make the steering shaft work. I am putting a Polaris Predator 500 front end with the discs on my cart looks like it would be alot easeir to go this route. .

I'm trying to do the same thing, except a Yamaha Warrior front end. Been thinking of a go cart rack for it, but not sure until I get the a arms fabbed up. Will have to take measurements. I've seen some guys using the stock rack off of an EZGO, might work. 2004 and newer I believe.

The EZ Go rack is a good idea, a small sand rail rack would work too......

Let us know how it works out if you go this way....I've been thinking about doing it just to get rid of my pittman arm extension.

Just went and looked at how my steering shaft mounts up Mounted to steering box. I will have to mount some piller block bearings to hold the steering shaft .

Flint, would a rack steering system be easier to steer ? Do you think it would be worth it ? Looks like a TON of work

Anytime you can get the steering mechanism level with the tie rods it sure helps with camber when the suspension travels, especially with big lifts or in your case a lot more travel with a ATV suspension. Plus it's got to be better at speed, that's why I'm looking at them. I think your pillow bock idea is good, then with your welding skills fab an extension to the steering shaft and put a knuckle on the end with the correct spline for the rack set up. They are cheap at Dan's. Would need to make a mount for the rack too but I'm sure you could make that up too, shouldn't be very hard. And then of course the tie rods would probably need to be refitted, but I'm sure you could buy/ make them. I bought thicker, longer one's for mine, had to drill the mounting holes out on the cart to make them fit but I feel a lot safer with them on.....

Interesting idea guy's. Might check out www.desertkarts.com under steering components (but ask if parts are in stock before ordering!) Rack would definatly "tighten" the steering play, anything is possible! I know Wilson could use the upgrade
