Semi-Trailer LED Lights Installed

I bought these Optronic lights and installed them using an 8-wire turn signal and a 1960's Chevy truck brake switch.

For anyone who follows this route here are some "lessons learned":

a. The 8-wire turn signal kits have a dedicated ground wire but they are also grounded by the attachment hardware as well. Complete isolation of the turn signal switch is required, just relocate the ground wire inside the turn signal to piece of metal that does not contact the steering column.

b. $20 LED flasher don't work. Go with the $6 local auto parts flasher made for LED trailer lights. The $20 ones need a bigger current draw then the cart supplies.

c. Hook the brake switch up to the lights before attempting to locate a place to mount the brake switch. You'll save your self a ton of time by being able see the brake lights come on in the various switch positions.

Man those lights are bright! You'll never be able to run from the cops at night now....

As for the brightness, I drive on the roads at night frequently and I really do not want to get run over ha ha.

Traffic is actually not that bad for carts on the south side of the island. But on Whitecap, you are seriously taking a huge risk hanging out on that road anytime of day on a cart...35 mph speed limit, yeah right!

I put some LED clearance lights on the side as well. I'm also thinking of putting some clearance lights on the top and an air horn too.

I also mounted two marine grade switches on the dash. One for the clearance, front turn signals & stop/turn/tail lights and the other for just the head lights. I run all the lights on an independent 12 volt boat battery mounted under the back seat. The battery I'm using is good for about 10 hrs of continous use with the two 55 watt halogen marine docking lights and the LEDs on.
