89 Marathon (gas) Suspension questions..
I did post some of this in EZGO gas....but should have posted it here.
I am in the process of installing a 4" block lift kit on my Marathon, and since I have it all torn apart I am going to upgrade the rear coil springs/shocks so that at some point I can add a rear seat without difficulty. The cart has a dump box on it now, so I figure it won't hurt to change things. My questions: Instead of using the spring extender on the rear, if I get a coil-over spring 2.5" ID X 14" tall spring will it fit/work correctly on this cart? If I go with the taller springs are there any problems with clearing structural parts of the cart? Something like this?? http://pitstopusa.com/i-5056313-susp...ng-300-lb.html I read here that the "stock" spring rate for the rear coils is somewhere in the 175-200lb range, how much higher than that should I go?? 300?? 400?? I know that it will stiffen the ride some, but don't want to over do it and end up with a pogo stick. If I put coil-over shocks on the front, what kind of spring rate would be best to go in combination with the rear spring upgrade? Do I need to do coil-over shocks on the front at all?? If any of you guys have put coil-overs on the front, which ones did you use? Thanks... |

Re: 89 Marathon (gas) Suspension questions..
Did a quick search and found this, hope it helps...
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...n-upgrade.html I'm not an ezgo guy but I've seen a few here where people switched to coil over shocks from atv's and motorcycles for the rear and had good results. You'll have to be able to weld in the mounts and some trial and error might come in to play with the sizing of the springs. |

Re: 89 Marathon (gas) Suspension questions..
if your cart had a factory dump be don it the springs will more #, like 800-1200# if i remember correctly. im thinking i would leave the coils and put your extenders on. I bought a 4", for my ezgo gxt-804 (dump bed) and ended up not using the 4" and building my own 8" to fit a yanmar diesel.... still in process at this point, slow, but making progress.
good luck |
