Default Lift Function vs Looks

Im new here so hello to everyone. I picking up my first cart on saturday. Its a 2008 PDS. Im using it for riding around on my farm and I need to lift it up some to get thru some of the trails, over logs, ect. I was looking at putting a 5" drop axle lift with 22" tires. My question is: Are the drop axle lifts more for looks, or is it pretty functional offroad. Keep in mind Im not rock crawlin or anything like that, but I will have the occasional obstacle to over come. Also I have two young daughters that will be riding with me, is a long travel lift safer in any way than a drop axle?

My opinion is all three of the lifts you mention are safe. And all of them improve "axle ground clearance. The drop axle lift may be a little stronger than a spindle lift if you buy an inexpensive spindle lift. The long travel will give a smoother ride.
Hope this helps

Thanks, any opinions at this point help. I know I could learn the answers to my questions thru trial and error, but I would like to skip most of that process if I can. Also I have read alot about the having to upgrade the PDS controller to a 400 amp Alltrax to prevent overheating if Im running bigger tires. Does this include just cruising around on the farm, or would it be mostly for extreme offroading? I will be running around in fields and on trails with the occasional hill, not mountain climbing or anything like that. I have no problem upgrading the controller, silenoid, cables, ect, but I dont want to build a $5000 cart when a I only need a $3500 one.

+1 You will need a bigger controller and a cable upgrade to compensate for the tires regardless of what you do with the cart.

Thanks for the info guys. I am finding alot of good info on here but some of the things look like they are directed more towards the golf cart extremist rather than a casual rider. Based on the info I have found so far here is what Im planning on doin:

Base cart is 2008 PDS
Alltrax 400 amp controller
4ga wires
Jakes long travel kit
headlight kit
heavy duty rear leaf springs
black steel wheels & 22" x 11 x 8 tires (unless 8" wheels wont work with lift)
fold down rear seat
volt meter
fender flares
Missing anything crucial?

I would have gotten a gas cart but from what I have seen this is such a good deal on the PDS Im having trouble turnin it down. Its a 2008 with a new front seat, new fold down rear seat, and refurb batteries for $1900. Am I fooling myself or is that pretty good? I have also read on here that people replacing the stock controller with the Alltrax 400 replace the silenoid at the same time. Any opinions on that? I have looked online for silenoids but had a hard time figuring out what would be required. Also are there "locals or sponsors" yall recommend buying from? Sorry for all the newbe questions but I really appreciate the experience and opinions of yall so far. Thanks.

Extremists? There are no golf cart extremists here.

I'd say that your list should make for a super nice cart! Post some pictures! You need to go to Carts Unlimited. Scotty can fix you up with exactly what you need performance wise.

"No extremist" from someone run 39 MPH in a cart.
I will get with Scotty, I assume this is the same Scotty that already replied to my post. I will also post some before and after pics. It wont be much compared to some carts I have seen on here, but it will probly be overbuilt for what Im gonna use it for. Confession: Im an overbuilder and could easily be converted to an extremist.

If you're posting on this forum it's all ready too late. You say you don't want a 5 grand golf cart when a $3500 will do. Eventually you'll be $5000 into it justifying another $2000. LOL. But seriously good luck with the build and keep us posted.
