Default 18x9.5 tire work on a 18x8.5 rim?

I just ordered some 18x9.5-8 knobby tires to replace my stock tires on my 06 ezgo pds. Do I have to get new rims sinice its an inch wider?

You can run up to 11" width tires on stock rims.

I did a guys cart he wanted tires to go up a wet grass hill. I got those lawn tires with the dogbone (carlisle turf mate) tread so its smooth ride but would handle grass and not tear up yards. I put 20x10-8 on the rear and 20x8-8 on front. The front the 10 wide would rub the shock on a G9, if I put washers on the lugs they would fit but figured why bother. It had a lot more traction that way, and 8 wide all around would have been fine but there is some soft sand around there and figured it would have better floatation. This guy could hardly walk the issue was him getting stuck someplace. Of course after that he went all over the place and ended up getting punctures in the tires because lawn tires are still only 2 ply. The stock wheels are 7" wide, the problem is wider tires are fatter and can hit on the inside wheel well/suspension/etc at some size point depending on what cart model you have. I did it this way because he didn't want pay for a lift and could not get on one either, but 20s would lift the cart a little and help him in the wooded areas he went, give a hair more speed too. The guy eventually passed on he was in bad shape, but it worked well for him for many years and his wife is still running it with those tires they all have tubes in them now lol.

The issue you can get with a wider rim is the rim will start to stick out and if you hit something you can damage the rim, instead of hitting the sidewall of the tire. You often need a shop that has the machine and knows how to mount them, to mount wide rims with a similar width tire.

Mounting the wide rims isn't usually the problem,Getting the beads to seat can be another story!!Thank God for the Cheetah-Blaster and sometimes Ether!(I've done Heavy-Truck tires for 20yrs.Ether is my friend!)!
