Clutch help
I read somewhere on this site and cannot find it now about " pre loading " the driven clutch. I have a Yamaha G-9 and am having some shifting problems with the driven clutch after putting it back togehter. I had no problems before so I am thinking its self inflicted. I read that your suppose to rotate the driven clutch outer plate before bolting it on so its under tension I think. Can someone walk me through this in laymans terms?

Re: Clutch help
The spring keeps the ramps on the pads, easy way is look in the sheave and hub to see where the spring was before via wear marks/etc. Get the ends in there, then turn it opposite way of the ramps so it springs back against the ramps. Put it in gear and lock the brakes, I do it with the shaft key up. Usually you turn it over to the next set of ramps IIRC it is 60 degrees let me look it up. Position B4 and 60 degrees clockwise. The holes are letters on one and numbers on the other part, but hard to find. Changing holes will change the amount of preload, more will cause it to run higher rpm at part throttle. Anyway, get it that way then slide it on the key in the taper, bolt it up to 43ft lbs torque, insert cotter pin, remove any excess grease from sheaves. You may have to move things to get the key in right spot when preloaded so you can slide it all the way on.
