Default Yahama G16 Rear tire rub issue

I'm a new owner of a 2002 Yahama G16 in firemist purple and no knowledge of anything carts except driving it My rear tires are rubbing, especially the left at 3:00 with any weight on the back and I'm trying to figure out if I have to change tires or if installing HD springs could fix it. It has a 5 inch Jake's lift with 23 inch tires on 12 inch rims (I really like the tires and rims so I'm trying to figure out if there are any other options then going with smaller tires.) Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you

Is 3:00 the rocker panel? If so you may need to cut/ bend it back to widen the opening, not uncommon. Stiffer springs on the shocks can also help, especially if you have a rear seat.

I'm sorry not sure what a rocker panel is.. I thought it was a mud flap but perhaps it is called a rocker panel but it already bent away from the tire. The rub is where what I call the mud flap and the wheel well (not sure if thats what you call it) meet. I just ordered the Jake's HD Rear Coil shocks to try and fingers crossed that will solve the issue. It already has a rear seat I just can't go over any bumps with any weight on it.

It is the plastic mud flap mine rubs some with 4 people on it but it don't hurt anything. Springs should help but will make it ride ruff.

It wore a hole in a short distance ride with 4 in the flap, it's really loud when it rubs. Will be putting on the coil shocks this weekend so hopefully it helps. Am I clueless to not worry about the ride considering the cart i s primarily used on large rock and dirt roads, not sure if I'm missing something.

23's are a bit large for even a 5" lift, normally they recommend 22's. Do you have a rear faceing seat? That can cause problems when weight is on the back. Jakes HD coil over springs really work well. Could be the rear frame is bent "forward" (happens all the time) and can be straightened back out. You could also add upper shock mount extensions. Some pictures would help.

This is the only pic I have of the tire that rubs, the cart is at the campground - 3 hours away. I know the tires are big, I actually had someone build this for me, I had selected a 5 inch lift and then he had sent me rims/wheels to choose from and the ones i wanted apparently were 23 and he didn't mention that. He said I could swap my wheels out but I'm kind of attached now and want to see if I can solve the issue and keep the wheels.

You can correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure you have a 6" lift. Jake's doesn't make a 5" that I am aware of. I would also guess that your tires are 22" if they are mounted on 12" wheels. Again, I am not familiar with a 23x12 Sahara classic, which I think is the model of your tires. With that said, it doesn't really matter. You obviously have rubbing issues regardless of which tires and lift you have. Swapping wheels and or tires is going to be the least cost effective fix at this point, and like your said, you have become attached.

As far as I am concerned, you have two options. If you carry more than 2 passengers most of the time, the heavy duty coils might be a good option for you. It will allow the cart to carry the extra weight without rubbing, and the cart will probably handle and ride better when loaded down with people. However, if you don't carry more than 2 people the majority of the time, adding the heavy duty coils will result in a rougher ride, noticeably rougher. Therefore, I would do what I did to my personal cart. A little trimming. It takes some time and work, but the cost is negligible and it will allow your cart to ride great and never rub.

Look through my cart build. I have detailed info and pics showing what to do.

My apologies. The info is not in my cart build. There is a thread dedicated to it here
