Lift kit & tire help needed!
I'm just learning about lift kits and a bit confused - looking through old threads here, and trying to decide what the best way to go is. I think I'm already sold on Jake's quality. 6" seems to be the sweet spot. I am mainly (98% of the time) using this in a large residential community on paved roads - occasionally, I'll be pulling out some overgrown small trees and shrubery from a small stream behind my house. What I understand from piecing things together - and please correct me if this is wrong - is that the main difference between spindle and A-Arm is cosmetic - that the A-arm gives an appearance that is more "off road". That being said, it also seems like the A-arm installation is more complicated (??) I was originally thinking 12" x 22 wheel/tire combo, but I changed my mind (I think) back to 14" x 23's. So, questions: 1. Is there any advantage to A-arm other than cosmetic? 2. Is it much harder to install? 3. Any thoughts on 12x22's vs 14x23's? (my main reason I'm starting to lean on the 14's is cosmetic - but open to opinions) I'm guessing neither is a problem with the 6" lift - any other considerations of the 2? Thanks for the help!! |

Re: Lift kit & tire help needed!
For what you are describing your useage as I would say a spindle lift will suit your needs just fine and from my research Jake's seems to be the best (strongest) spindle lift out there and would be my choice as well.
There is more than cosmetic differneces between an a-arm lift and a spindle lift but both have their advantages and disadvantages in the end. As for tires you may want to call Jake's (or wait on here for an answer) and see if a 23 inch tire will fit with a spindle lift. I know that with some A-arm lifts you need to run the wheelbase extension kits to fit a 23 with no rubbing. Not sure if a spindle lift and a 23 will work together. |

Re: Lift kit & tire help needed!
I did call Jake's today and was told by them that they don't support a 14" wheel on either their 6" spindle or A-arm kit (I can't say I had a lot of confidence in the person I spoke with, so I'm not sure if they were just stating from the book, or if it simply will not work). They say they support a 12 x 23...i thought the tire height was the same (23") regardless here...why would a taller wheel (lower profile tire) not work?
Anybody else have 14x 23's on a 6" lift without issues (Precedent)? I also had a retailer tell me that Jake's lift's were Chinese junk knockoffs (which I've never heard anythign but good things about Jake's) and that he'd sell me a USA made A-arm kit for the same...???? |

Re: Lift kit & tire help needed!
I would just take a look at a Jake's kit spindle and then look at some of the off brand spindle lifts out there and see which spindle looks stronger and which one you would rather have on your cart. I know that when I did that I could easily tell which one I would choose if I was getting a spindle lift.
