Default Steering Issue after lifting

I am new to carts, just bought this from a guy I work with and he gave me a lift to put on it (he didnt like it and took it off and just accepted the tire rub) but I couldnt stand it so I put the lift back on and love it.

Issue #1 is the steering rods. As you can see from the picture, the C bracket for the steering rods is cheap/flimsy/hard to ensure it will stay at that angle and the rod bolt doesnt go all the way to the C bracket. Should I just drill the hole in the C bracket bigger so it goes all the way flush to the bottom of where the bolt pivots or leave the washer setup like I have it in the second pic? should there be any up/down play or should I crank the bolt with the cotter pin down as tight as possible? Also any suggestions for the setup? should I beef it up anyway or is it fine as is?

Issue #2, while I was attempting to figure out how to align the steering (still hoping i did it right with my mark 1 eye balls) i noticed that the front wheels , the driver's side of the cart sticks out about an inch or so more than the passenger. should I tear everything apart and hammer it to the passenger side a bit or just leave it? Before you answer let me tell you I drive this thing maybe 3-4 times a week just taking the kids to the pool or around the neighborhood and might take it camping every now and then.

Just some random questions. As for the struts, they are old and a bit rusty. Would replacing them aid in a better ride and be worth it or just keep them? Speaking of rust, a lot of the underside is rusted. Any suggestions on a kind of paint you guys prefer? Also as you can see the tires are a bit rounded and look more like a std golf cart tire, I dont want anything too agressive but something with a bit more of a square/offroad look. Any suggestions?

thanks for the help in making this thing the envy of the subdivision.

Welcome to BGW

The bracket looks different that fits the spindles, that bracket looks like the one for the shocks,

Looks like the guy you bought it from made his own lift kit. Those aren't what I would call a safe way to do it. You need to get a good lift kit and install it for the safety of u and your family and anyone else who rides the cart.

the only real issue is where the steerer is attached. I could just get someone to weld one or two supporting arms to the existing one to ensure no possible movement so it is secured on more than one axis. just curious how the steerer should meet the flange, flush or is at an angle fine?

I would weld a piece of flat across the open-side(top to bottom)to prevent flex.Run the flat down past the spindle,so that it helps to locate the riser on the spindle, preventing it from twisting/turning and changing steering-geometry on its' own.I install an "Economy-Kit" for a guy 2 weeks ago,the riser actually bolted under the steering-arm(it was rectangle shaped, you slid it in so the arm was inside the rectangle)this prevented it from twisting, but it still needed better locating-lugs)Hope this helps.
