Default Rear leaf spring removal - axle mount cap

Hello all,
I'm new to carting and bought a 1998 ezgo gas txt with a rear flip seat as my first project cart. I've been trolling around in here for awhile finding lots of great advice and answers to my questions as they've come up. I've been mostly focused on engine issues but now I'm starting the cosmetics and ride quality.

I'm waiting on a Jakes 6 inch spindle lift to come in and was planning on going ahead an replacing the rear stock leaf springs with some 4-leaf hd springs I ordered. That's when I got to the axle mount cap shown in the attached picture.

How do I remove the mount cap? I can't get a socket over the nuts on the u-bolt. Do I need to just cut the u-bolts to get it off? I know I will need longer u-bolts with the 4-leaf spring anyway.

Also, will I even need the mount cap once I put the rear lift on? I'm thinking I won't. The lifts I've seen don't have one as the bracket just rest on the axle. If I do need to leave it on with the lift I guess it would be installed upside down since the leaf will be above the axle.

Any help from someone who's familiar with this is greatly appreciated.

I'll post pics after the lift and wheels are on.

Ok. I'll try that. It think there is dirt caked in the opening too. I'll try to brush out as much as I can. Have you lifted your cart? Any thoughts on needing the mount cap when the lifted bracket is installed?

Spray some PB blaster on the nut and threads before you start it will help. You will not need the mount cap with your new lift, the rear lift for your cart comes with everything you need from Jakes, you axle will be on the bottom of your leaf springs after you do this. As a tip use a floor jack it will help with raising and lowering of the rear of your cart.
