Default Golf cart vs side by side

Just looking for some feedback. I have a lifted and custom painted Club car. I have a lake house and a few friends have RZR's and I'm wondering can you make a golf cart into a fun off road vehicle. Not expection it to perform like a 4x4 800cc RZR, but just wondering what can these things do?

Are you gas or electric, and how fast do you want to go?

If your cart is gas then it can go almost anywhere with time and money. You can spend as much as you want to on these carts. If your not wanting to spend to much you can mod out your stock motor such As no governor , k&n air filter , jet it , exhaust , clutch power kits , short belt , mill the heads ext haha that will climb anything just won't have the overall power as a rzr or you could just get a v twin then it would run with the rzrs

Its a 1986 Club car with rims/tires I believe 6" lift leather seats and a flip down back seat with diamond plate. All cosmetic. I have a fab shop at work and the technical ability.

Speed....fast enough to do some trail riding and not lag to far behind. Plus have enough torque so I don't get stuck on the trail hills. Not expection RZR performance ....not even half that.

Something for the trails and tru tracks in northern Michigan.

Thanks again in advance

I actually get this question a lot from customers. I can build a golf cart that will out perform any stock side by side on the market for about 1/2 the money. I've had people sell their rhino's to have my build his and hers golf carts (guy said he was getting her one so he didn't have to share)

That's sounds positive. I have enough play toys to have to invest $13,000.00 plus in a side by side. Just want something fun to run around the lake with. The current set up the cart surges at mid to high speeds and has no power at all trying to go up a hill. Have to get a running start and by the time I'm almost to the top I'm out of steam.

Lol we build custom turbo set up etc.....plus were a Roush Performance center. Maybe I need to put a baby turbo on it lol

I have a pretty built up cart with a full cage, Honda 24 hp engine, custom lift, etc. The cart is a lot of fun & does 2 or 3 times the speed of other stock carts in our area. And I have 1/2 the cost of a real side by side into it (about $5k)

But it's no Rzr or Rhino by any stretch of the imagination. They have 30 - 50 hp motors, engineered frame/cages, 4 wheel independent suspensions, 4WD & 4 wheel disc brakes. Plus all the little things like linkages, skidplates & suspension travel have been worked out. To add all that to a cart would put you well over the $5k mark, especially if you count time & parts.

I used to have an Arctic Cat 650 V2 that would easily run circles around my cart. I ran it in 2' deep snow, towed a Chevy Tahoe 150' down a snow covered driveway, plus it did 45 or 50 mph & went thru mud that would swallow this cart up.

The benefit for me is that I can drive the cart around the small town I live in. I can load 4 people on it & go 2 or 3 blocks away to the beach, a mile away for ice cream, or 3 miles away to visit friends on the other side of town. The ATVs & UTVs are not allowed on the streets. The cart can go almost anywhere as long as the speed limit is under 35 mph. I can drive it on the grass at the neighborhood park, haul my 36 lb SkySki or 12' long paddleboard down to the lake, or drag a rake around on the beach to clean up the sand. It just works better for the area we live in.

I fab most my stuff and when a customer wants 4x4 disk brakes and full independent suspension that's what they get. It isn't hard if you look towards atv and even side by sides for parts either new or used. Currently I'm in the proccess of dropping an 80hp polaris 400cc 2 stroke single in a G2 cart with full custom long travel suspension. Currently sitting about $800 into it and that's includes getting it. I don't cut corners and tend to over build (Over kill is under rated!) It's a sand only machine but in sand it topped 68mph on gps and that was before going over the engine back when it only made 42hp. Best part of that engine is I can use the small atv battery that came with the quad I parted out and if it goes dead from leaving the lights on it has pull start backup!
